scientific disposal of all waste material.
The treatment is based on the principles
recognized in all the leading sanatoria of
the world. These principles, briefly stated,
are fresh air and sunshine, rest, good and
abundant food, an occasional dose of medicine
for the relief of troublesome symptoms,
and the careful application of tuberculin
and allied products.
Above all else, siipeivision is the most important
function of the sanatorium, and
patients will be taught the dilTicult art of
applying comparatively simple principles
to their respective cases. For this reason
we believe the sanatorium offers the best
opportunity for recovery in every case. And
a very large percentage of early cases may
be cured.
Special efforts will be made to render the
Sanatorium homelike and attractive.
Amusements will be provided, and the latest
current literature will be placed at the disposal
of the patients.

Director of the Sanatorium.
Dr. Lewis M. Gaines, of Atlanta, is Associate

Dr. Edward G. Jones, of Atlanta, is Consulting
Surgeon.
Dr. M. G. Campbell, of Atlanta, is Consulting
Physician.
There will be a trained nurse in charge
and sufficient number of attendants to
guarantee the best service.

Dr. Clemenger in London.
Dr. F. J. Clemenger, one of Asheville's
most progressive physicians, is now in London,
where for the pasi year he has been an
assistant to Sir Almoth Wright, of Opsonic
Theory fame. During the past eight months
he has served as one of the salaried assistants
on the staff of the Inoculation Department
at St. Mary's Hospital where Wright's
famous work has been done, and where it
is said on clinic days one hundred and fifty
cases are treated. To show in how great
esteem this work is held, it was necessary
to provide a new wing to the hospital. This
wing was opened up on July 1st for the sole
use of the inoculation department. It contains
well equipped laboratories and accommodations
for one hundred or more beds.
The cost of the wing was something over
two hundred thousand dollars. We congratulate
Dr. Clemenger on this recognition
of his abilities.

ington, N. C, on July 12th. Besides the
regular members of the society, Dr. Hubert
A. Royster, of Raleigh, N. C, and Dr. J.
W. Long, of Greensboro, X. C, were present.
Dr. Royster and Dr. Long both read
interesting papers, which were thoroughly
discussed by the members of the society.

The Trustees of Wake Forest College,
N. C, have elected Dr. J. D. Powers to sueceed
Dr. W. S. Rankin, who resigned his
position as dean of the medical department
of that institution to become Secretary of
the State Board of Health of North Caro-
lina.
Dr. Powers is a Wake Forest man, and :!
has had two years' work at Bellevue Hos- ;
pital, New York.
The Macon Hospital in Macon, Ga., is
being remodeled, which will add greatly to
both the appearance and convenience of the
institution. A considerable sum of money ;
will be spent in the changes that are to be j
made for the benefit of the patients.
The Georgia State Sanitarium for the
Treatment of Tuberculosis is to be located
at Alto, Ga., on the Southern Railroad, 'i
near Mt. Airy. This site was selected by a i
sub-committee composed of Captain W. G.
Aoul, of Atlanta, Judge T. D. Tinsley, of
Macon, and Dr. II. R. Slack, of LaGrange. i
The State has appropriated $2.5,000 for the ,i
building of this institution.

The Alabama State Medical Examiners
met in Montgomery July 13th. One hundred
and fifty young medicos applied for

license, a nunrber which surpasses all former
records for Alabama. There were nine j
negroes.
