with this option, so that they may be tried once or for a limited<br />

period before they self-erase.<br />

Only programs without the Registration option can have<br />

a Timer option, thus Timer programs are not updated and are<br />

subject to software degradation just like pirated software (see<br />

p. 109).<br />

Cracking the Timer: The self-erasing features of the Timer<br />

option can by bypassed by a Software + Logic (10, 1 hour)<br />

Extended Test (using Hardware instead of Software in the case of<br />

programs run from a chip, like some skillsofts).<br />

viral resistance (rating)<br />

Program Types: Common, Hacking, Autosoft, Simsense<br />

Programs carrying the Viral Resistance option are less prone<br />

to viral infection. Reduce the virus’s dice pool by a number of dice<br />

equal to the Viral Resistance rating for Infection Tests made by the<br />

virus or for hackers who install them directly (p. 121).<br />

Hacking prograM optionS<br />

These options may only be applied to hacking programs.<br />

area (rating)<br />

Program Types: Hacking (Combat programs only)<br />

The area option enables a combat program to engage multiple<br />

targets at once (the attacker chooses his targets, but all targets<br />

must be in the same node). The program may engage a number of<br />

targets equal to the Area option rating. The user makes a single<br />

Matrix Attack Test, reducing his dice pool by 1 for each additional<br />

target beyond the first. The hits are compared to the defending<br />

icons’ hits separately for each icon. In all cases where the attacker<br />

scored more hits, the attack succeeds.<br />

armor piercing (rating 1-3)<br />

Program Types: Hacking (Combat programs only)<br />

Any damaging program can be equipped with the Armor<br />

Piercing option, granting the program the ability to pierce software<br />

redundancy systems (Armor programs) in the same way as<br />

weapons and bullets can shoot through normal ballistic or impact<br />

armor (see Armor Piercing, p. 155, SR4).<br />

pavlov<br />

Program Types: Hacking (Data Bomb only)<br />

Pavlov is an option specific to Data Bomb programs. A Pavlov<br />

Data Bomb does not crash when detonated and remains armed,<br />

but is in all other regards handled like a normal Data Bomb (see<br />

p. 226, SR4).<br />

rust<br />

Program Types: Hacking (Combat programs only)<br />

Combat programs equipped with the Rust option are designed<br />

to degrade an Armor utility over time. For each successful<br />

attack on a target (each attack that hits, regardless of whether it<br />

causes damage), reduce the rating of its Armor program by 1. This<br />
