John, Earl of Mar, by disposition, dated July 14,<br />

1614. He had a son, William Stirling of Bankell,<br />

who died before Oct. 31, 1654, without issue and<br />

was succeeded by his cousin, John Stirling (son of<br />

Henry, fifth son of Sir Archibald Stirling of Keir),<br />

who was served heir to William of that date.<br />

I 5 Archibald Stirling, who acquired from his father the<br />

lands of KIPPENDAVIE in 1594, and was the first<br />

of that branch of the Keir family (q. v. ).<br />

6 Henry Stirling. Had two sons: John, who succeeded<br />

William Stirling of Bankell, his cousin, and who<br />

married before Feb. 7, 1661, Elizabeth Dick,<br />

daughter of John Dick, fiar of Braid, and one<br />

other.<br />

7 Alexander Stirling.<br />

8 Agnes or Anna Stirling.<br />

XIV SIR JAMES STIRLING, FIAR OF KEIR, KNIGHT.<br />

He was knighted after Apr. 30, 1607. He married (contract<br />

dated July and August, 1606) Anna, eldest daughter of Sir<br />

George Home of Wedderburn, who divorced him. His children<br />

were:<br />

1 James Stirling.<br />

2 Archibald Stirling, died before Aug. 17, 1630.<br />

XV 3 George Stirling of Keir and Cadder.<br />

4 Mary Stirling; married John Stewart, the younger of<br />

Blackball (contract dated Aug. 23, 1633). Had<br />

four sons : Archibald, who succeeded his grandfather<br />

in 1658 and was created a baronet in 1667, Walter,<br />

David, and James, and two daughters, Mary and<br />

Anabel.<br />

5 Jean Stirling.<br />

XV SIR GEORGE STIRLING OF KEIR AND CADDER,<br />

KNIGHT (1630-1667). He succeeded his grandfather, Sir<br />

Archibald Stirling, in 1630. 1 He married first (contract dated<br />

December, 1630) at the age of eighteen, his cousin, the Honorable<br />

Margaret Ross, born Dec. 19, 1615, daughter of James, Lord<br />

Ross, who died and was buried in Holyrood Chapel, Mar. 27,<br />

1633; married second (settlement dated Jan. 2, 1637), Margaret<br />
