Johannes (Johan) Boos (Boyce), then aged 22, came to<br />

Penn., from Rotterdam, in the ship " Glasgow," master, Walter<br />

<strong>Sterling</strong>, qualified, Sept. 9, 1738. (Penn. Archives, 2d Series,<br />

Vol. 17, p. 151.)<br />

This Walter <strong>Sterling</strong> may have been Walter Stirling, later<br />

Sir Walter Stirling, Admiral, R.N., of Faskine, Scotland (q. v.),<br />

William Boyce, the above, was appointed administrator of Thomas<br />

<strong>Sterling</strong>'s estate by Jonathan Belcher, Governor of the Province<br />

of New Jersey, Aug. 22, 1749.<br />

William and John Boyce of Amwell, county of Hunterdon,<br />

yeoman, became bound in the sum of £500 to administer the es-<br />

tate, which act was brought into court at Trenton, Apr. 9, 1750,<br />

together with an inventory of the estate, amounting to something<br />

over £100. (Trenton Records.)<br />

Andrew <strong>Sterling</strong> or Starling, then of Amwell, married Dec.<br />

18, 1773, Hannah, daughter of Francis Boyce of Amwell. An-<br />

drew was a native of England and settled in Fayette Co., Penn.<br />

(q. V.)<br />

MAJ. JAMES STERLING, born in Coleraine, North of Ire-<br />

land, Jan. 6, 1742, came to America about 1754 with his uncle,<br />

James Hunter, a merchant of Philadelphia. He was accompanied<br />

or followed by his parents, as they died in America. He had two<br />

sisters who married and lived in America. He was of Burlington,<br />

N. J. {See page 1104.)<br />

DR. HENRY STERLING, born near Londonderry, North of<br />

Ireland, in 1726, came to America in 1756 and settled in Provi-<br />

dence, R. I. (See page 1049.)<br />

WILLIAM STERLING, born in the North of Ireland in 1744 ;<br />

was accompanied to America by a brother, name unknown. He
