court at the place since known as Court Hill.<br />

Sir John Striveling acquired the lands of Glorat from Mat-<br />

thew, Earl of Lennox, by charter, dated May 27, 1508, confirmed<br />

by James IV by charter dated the 31st of the same month, wherein<br />

he is styled the King's familiar knight.<br />

On June 6, 1508, Sir John founded a chaplainry in the church<br />

of Campsie and at his place of Craigbernard, the provisions of<br />

which grant are curious and interesting.<br />

Sir John married Margaret, eldest daughter of James, third<br />

Lord Abernethy of Saltoun. He died before Aug. 3, 1510. He<br />

had at least four sons:<br />

XII 1 George Strivelyn, his heir.<br />

2 William Strivelyn, first of GLORAT (q. v.).<br />

3 Walter Strivelyn, first of BALLAGAN (q. v.).<br />

4 Robert Strivelyn, brother-german of William, named<br />

in a grant by Colin Campbell of Auchinhowie to<br />

William Stirling of Glorat, of the ward of the<br />

lands of Branzaite, is clearly a fourth son of Sir<br />

John.<br />

He had also a daughter who married John Lennox of<br />

Balcorroch.<br />

XII GEORGE STRIVELING OF CRAIGBERNARD. On<br />

Aug. 15, 1510, he received from Matthew, Earl of Lennox, a<br />

precept of sasine as heir of his father in Glorat and Kilwynnet,<br />

on which he was infeft the 21st of the same month. On June 17,<br />

1511, George Striveling " Dominus de Cragbernard," as heir of<br />

his deceased father, Sir John, the first founder and patron, in-<br />

ducted Sir George Mason, late vicar of Drumman (Drymen) to<br />

the chaplainry in the parish of Campsie and the private chapel<br />

of Craigbernard.<br />

George married before Mar. 16, 1502, Elizabeth Park, by<br />

whom he had seven sons and one daughter. He died between<br />

Feb. 10 and Apr. 12, 1520, and was succeeded by his eldest son.<br />

His children were:<br />

XIII 1 John Striveling, his heir.<br />

2 James Striveling, witness to a charter by Sir James<br />

Stirling of Keir, dated Aug. 11, 1566.
