I T 71 7 ILLIAM STIRLING, second son of Sir John Stryv-<br />

eling of Keir, Knight, and Margaret Forrester,<br />

was the first of this house. A descendant of Wil-<br />

liam was created a baronet in the reign of King Charles II, but<br />

the title became extinct by the failure of male heirs, although<br />

the first baronet was the eldest of thirty-one children, and<br />

one of his brothers lived to the age of 112 years.<br />

By charter, dated May 10, 1543, James Stirling of Keir<br />

gave to his brother-german, William Stirling, and Marion Sin-<br />

clair, his wife, and the children of their marriage, the lands of<br />

Glassingall and Dachlewne in the barony of Keir. William Stir-<br />

ling was thereafter designated of Dachlewne. Marion Sinclair,<br />

his wife, was only daughter and heiress of Henry Sinclair of<br />

Nether Ardoch and Drumlacothe or Drumlacok and Beatrix Chis-<br />

holm, his wife. He died between June 30, 1565, and Dec. 16,<br />

1573.<br />

His children were:<br />

II 1 Henry Stirling, his heir.<br />

2 James Stirling, advocate, portioner of Easter Feddals.<br />

He acquired the western half of Easter (now called<br />

middle) Feddals, in the regality of Lindores and shire<br />

of Perth, June 1, 1577 ; married Isabel Borthwick,<br />

relict of Robert Crichton of Ellioch. He died May<br />

31, 1614, and was succeeded by his eldest son, William,<br />

who sold Feddals to William Stirling, fiar of<br />

Ardoch, in 1618.<br />

3 William Stirling, rector of Aberfoyle from 1566 to 1593.<br />

He acquired in 1584, from his brother James, the western<br />

half of Easter Feddals. He married Geills Bisset,<br />

who died about 1566; he died between Jan. 11, 1614,
