was a colonel in the Royal Army; saw service in the<br />

Crimean campaign from' April, 1855, and was present<br />

at the siege of Sebastopol.<br />

4 Walter, born in 1837 ; killed at Cawnpore in the<br />

Indian Mutiny in 1857 ; unmarried.<br />

5 Georgiana Janet, married first, Sir Henry Tombs,<br />

second, Sir Herbert Stewart.<br />

6 Charlotte Dorothea, married Charles Stirling,<br />

first of Muiravonside (q. v.). <strong>The</strong>re were a number<br />

of other daughters.<br />

10 Anna Stirling, born in September, 1792.<br />

11 Dorothea Stirling, born in January, 1794.<br />

12 Andrew Stirling, born in January, 1795, of the Royal Navy ;<br />

died unmarried on board H. M. S. Inconstant off the<br />

coast of Africa in 1816.<br />

13 Robert Stirling, born in April, 1796; captain in the 3d<br />

Buffs; killed by pirates in 1829 while on a voyage to<br />

India to rejoin his regiment; unmarried.<br />

14 Edward Hamilton Stirling, born in April, 1797. He was in<br />

the service of the East India Company, and subsequently<br />

acquired a property in the Isle of Jersey, near<br />

St. Heliers. He died in 1873, leaving no issue.<br />

15 Mary Stirling, born in August, 1798.<br />

X JOHN STIRLING OF ELDERSHAW, third son of<br />

Andrew Stirling of Drumpellier, was born Oct. 20, 1786 ; married<br />

in 1816, Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Thomas Mayne Willing<br />

of Philadelphia, Penn., U. S. A. He died in 1853, leaving four<br />

sons<br />

1 Andrew Stirling, born in 1818; died unmarried in Western<br />

Australia in 1844, while with his uncle, Sir James<br />

Stirling, Governor of the Colony.<br />

XI 2 Thomas Mayne Stirling, of whom hereafter.<br />

3 William Stirling, born in 1830; lieutenant in the Royal<br />

Horse Artillery, and died unmarried at the Currah<br />

Camp in 1856.<br />

4 John Stirling, born in 1835; lieutenant in the 41st Regiment,<br />

and was killed at the Battle of Tukerman in<br />

the Crimean War.<br />
