6 mos. <strong>The</strong>y had at least one child, a son Garnsey,<br />

who married and lived at Patterson.<br />

Stratfield, Conn., Feb. 17, 1756, David Sherman, b. Dec. 8, 1736,<br />

son of Lieut. David and Sarah (Thompson) Sherman. David<br />

Sherman was a farmer near Bridgeport. He was killed by light-<br />

ning in the old Pequounock meeting-house in Bridgeport, July 28,<br />

1771. <strong>The</strong> inscription on his gravestone reads : " Here lyes Buried<br />

the Body of Mr. David Sherman who was killed by lightining in the<br />

House of God at public worship on the 28 th of July 1771, in y e<br />

35 th Year of his Age " Mrs. Mary Sherman d. May 28, 1765.<br />

She is buried by the side of her husband. <strong>The</strong> inscription on the<br />

stone above her grave is : " Here lyes y e Body of Mrs. Mary Sherman,<br />

Wife to Mr. David Sherman and Dau tr to Mr. Stephen &<br />

Mrs. Eunice Starling, Who departed this life May y e 28 th 1765<br />

in y e 25 th Year of Her Age."<br />

wood, sister of Esther, who m. Abijah's brother Sylvanus.<br />

On Oct. 14, 1769, five weeks after his marriage, Abijah's father<br />

gave him " an acre & one half of my home lot . . . being ye North
