father's executors in 1549. He was a curator to Marion Stirling<br />

in 1554. Andrew Stirling of Portnellan-Haliday, granted a char-<br />

ter, May 4, 1564, to his beloved cousin, Luka Stirling and Jonet<br />

Edmestoun, his spouse, in conjunct life- rent and to John Stir-<br />

ling, their son and heir apparent of the lands of Wester Bal-<br />

dorrane. He married Janet Edmastoun, who, with consent of Luke<br />

Stirling, resigned to James Stirling of Keir, their infeftment of<br />

Ballindroch, Oct. 22, 1564.<br />

III WALTER STRIUELYNG OF BALLAGAN, who was<br />

a witness to a reversion in favor of Sir James Stirling of Keir,<br />

dated May 25, 1569.<br />

Walter Stirling of Ballagan was fined £100 for non-appear-<br />

ance of the panels for whom he had become surety that they should<br />

enter themselves before the justician on Jan. 31, 1570, and under<br />

the law, for the traitorous detention of the tower or fortalice of<br />

Perdowye against the King and his Regent and also for their<br />

remaining at home from the rand at Linlithgow. Walter was tried<br />

for being, art and part, with William Stirling of Glorat and<br />

others in the slaughter of Malcolm Kincaid. He married Janet<br />

Graham and died Dec. 24, 1597, as appears by his will, dated the<br />

17th of that month, and in which his wife is one of his executors<br />

along with John Stirling, the elder of Craigbarnet, and John<br />

Stirling, the elder of Glorat.<br />

arine Stirling, who received a life-rent charter in 1545 from<br />

John Colquhoun of Kilmardinny of his half of the lands of<br />

Kilmardinny.")<br />

IV GEORGE STIRLING OF BALLAGAN. He witnessed<br />

a discharge by Sir Archibald Stirling of Keir dated May 24, 1602.<br />

George died in July, 1615, intestate, and an inventory of his<br />

effects was given by Jonet Stirling, his relect, on behalf of Jeane,<br />

Elizabeth, Jonet, and Agnes Stirlings, his lawful bairns and ex-<br />

ecutors-dative. He was succeeded by his son<br />

V WALTER STIRLING OF BALLAGAN. He was served<br />

heir of his father in Ballagan on Aug. 22, 1618. He was prob-<br />
