5 William Stirling, born June 26, 1787 ;<br />

inherited the estate<br />

of Content in Jamaica from his father ; married first,<br />

in 1811, Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, daughter of<br />

Henry, eldest son of Edward Barrett Barrett of<br />

Cinnamon Hill, Jamaica. She died Apr. 19, 1830.<br />

William married second, contract dated June 10,<br />

1833, Olivia, daughter of Peter Salmond. William<br />

died in 1862.<br />

Children by first marriage:<br />

I John Stirling, born at Montego Bay, Jamaica,<br />

Jan. 24, 1813; married in 1839, Rebecca Ann, daughter<br />

of Major Crotty. He was educated at St. John's<br />

College, Cambridge, and read for the bar. After<br />

his marriage he secured an appointment in Australia<br />

and, having held appointments in the Legislative<br />

Council and Civil Service, returned to England in<br />

1859. He subsequently engaged in business as a<br />

merchant in the West Indian trade until 1888 ; died<br />

at Tenerife in 1894.<br />

1 William Cashel, born May 24; died July<br />

23, 1840.<br />

2 John Henry, born in Sidney, N. S. W., Oct.<br />

7, 1841 ; married in 1886 his cousin Anna Dcnnistoun,<br />

daughter of Henry Macdowall of Garthland<br />

and Carruth, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He joined his<br />

father in business in Jamaica in 1868; retired in<br />

1888 and settled in the Canaries. Address : El<br />

Drago, Villa de la Orotava, Tenerife, Canary Islands.
