March, 1651 " ; succeeded his father in GARDEN<br />

and continued that branch.<br />

6 James Stirling, " borne in Gardenne the 29th of June<br />

1652"; married (contract dated June 22, 1681)<br />

Mary, daughter of Sir George Stirling, first Baronet<br />

of Glorat. He died before Apr. 2, 1699,<br />

leaving a son James and a daughter Christian, both<br />

living Aug. 15, 1702.<br />

7 George Stirling, " borne at Ochiltrie, the 20th day of<br />

July, 1653."<br />

8 William Stirling, " borne at Ochiltrie, the 20th day of<br />

Oct r 1654"; probably died young.<br />

9 Alexander Stirling, " born at Ochiltrie, the 9th of April,<br />

1656"; probably died young.<br />

10 Thomas Stirling, " borne at Ochiltrie, the 25th December,<br />

1658 " ; probably died young.<br />

11 Henry Stirling, "borne at Edinburgh the 20th day of<br />

July, 1667." He was appointed ensign in the company<br />

levied by the merchants of London to go to<br />

the East Indies ;<br />

died in the end of August, 1736 ;<br />

had a son born in 1709 or 10, who was living in<br />

1731.<br />

12 Catharine Stirling, " borne at Edin h the 8th September<br />

1647."<br />

13 Elizabeth Stirling, " borne at Ochiltrie upon the last<br />

of January, 1649 " ; married James Letoun of<br />

Touch.<br />

14 Rebecca Stirling, " born at Ochiltrie upon the 2nd<br />

April, 1650."<br />

XVI SIR JOHN STIRLING OF KEIR AND CADDER,<br />

KNIGHT (1668-1684). He married first, at Stirling, Feb. 6,<br />

1668, Lady Margaret Livingston, daughter of Alexander, second<br />

Earl of Linlithgow (widow of Sir Thomas Nicolson of Carnock<br />

and of Sir George Stirling of Keir). She died at Keir, Nov. 2,<br />

1674, without living issue. He married second, at the Abbey of<br />

Holyroodhome, Dec. 2, 1675, Lilias, eldest daughter of Sir John<br />

Colquhon of Luss. He died at Cadder, in March, 1684, " a dis-<br />

creet, honest and ingenious gentleman." 1 She married second, the<br />
