1775, in East Haddam in response to the " Lexington Alarm,"<br />

and served until Dec. 17 of that year; also served eight months<br />

in Capt. Nathan Jewett's company in 1776. July 1, 1780, he<br />

enlisted in Col. Heman's regiment and served until Oct. 9 of that<br />

year. Shortly after his marriage he removed to Woodstock, Vt.,<br />

where he lived until 1817, when he migrated to Shelby, Orleans Co.,<br />

N. Y. He was granted a pension, Sept. 18, 1832. He d. in Shelby,<br />

Dec. 4, 1844. Anna d. in Greensburg, Vt., Sept. 24, 1815.<br />

163 NATHAN STERLIN (brother of the above), b. in East<br />

Haddam, Conn., June 3, 1763; m. Mary Wade. He served in<br />

Capt. Hungerford's company, in garrison at New London and<br />

Groton, Conn., from Nov. 4, 1781, to Jan. 2, 1782; removed to<br />

Vermont and settled at Waitsfield in 1794. His mother is said to<br />

have accompanied him on this journey. About 1813 he removed<br />

to Moriah, Essex Co., N. Y., where he died.<br />

14, 1788. He had a grandson, William <strong>Sterling</strong>,<br />

Elizabeth Graves, b. in Millington, 1746, d. there Jan. 23, 1807; m. 3d, Nov. 17, 1809,<br />

Eunice Spencer, b. 1756, d. at E. Haddom, Oct. 21, 1819. He was a soldier in the<br />

French and Indian wars and during the Revolution; d. at E. Haddam, May 5, 1812.<br />

His dau. Polly m. Marvil <strong>Sterling</strong> (No. 192) ; his dau. Anna m. <strong>Sterling</strong> Graves of the<br />

E. Haddam family of Graves.
