Joseph received eighteen acres of land " in Stratford, at White<br />

Plains, so called & and it is bounded South Westerly by land sold<br />

this day to him, said Joseph Starling and his wife Easther Starling,<br />

North Easterly by my own land, south on highway and North<br />

Westerly by James Hubbell's land." To Stephen, by one deed,<br />

Jacob gave<br />

equal % of two tracts of land in y township of<br />

Stratford, the one lying joining on Ireland's Brook, near y<br />

County road, hath an orchard on it & is in quantity about 5 acres<br />

of land & is bounded Sout by y e said brook, north & west on<br />

Charles Burritt's, east on highway. <strong>The</strong> other piece lyes on y<br />

dwelling house,<br />

east side of y e highway, over against Dan 1<br />

about 12 acres," being on the highway and adjoining property<br />

owned by Thaddeus Gregory, Gamaliel French and " y e Hawley's<br />

land."<br />

By the second deed, Stephen bought of his father, for £250,<br />

" a Tract of Land at white plains, so called, y e equal l/ 2 in quan-<br />

tity & quality of the whool 36 acres of land, bounded North<br />

Westerly by James Hubbel's land or a run of water, North East-<br />

erly by Nathaniel Hawley's land, South Easterly by a Highway,<br />

South Westerly by land I have sold this day to my Son Joseph<br />

<strong>Sterling</strong>." Jacob evidently disposed of his ship yard property<br />

prior to 1757, when he made his will as he makes no mention of<br />

it in that instrument.<br />

Jacob Starling died Jan. 9, 1765. His wife Hannah died June<br />

14, 1756. <strong>The</strong>y are buried in the Old Stratfield Burying Ground,<br />

in the present city of Bridgeport. <strong>The</strong> inscription on Jacob's<br />

stone reads : " Here lyes Buried the Body of M* Jacob Starling,<br />

Who departed this life Janu ry y e 9, 1765, in y e 88 th Year of His<br />

Age." Hannah's tombstone inscription reads : " Here lyes y e<br />

Body of Mrs. Hannah Starling, wife of Mr. Jacob Starling, who<br />

departed this life, June y e 14 th 1756 in y e 77 th year of her age."<br />

In the name of God, Amen; I, Jacob <strong>Sterling</strong> of Stratford<br />

in the County of Fairfield and Colony of Conn, in New England,<br />

being in health of body & mind, do make & ordain this my last will<br />
