Mr. H. E. H. Smedley, F.L.S. , F.G.S., exhibited forty-one<br />

Models <strong>of</strong> Palaeozoic Seeds<br />

following : — Palceostachya,<br />

and Cones, including those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Calamostachys, Cingularia, Cheirostrobus,<br />

Sigillariostrohus, Spencerites, Bennettites, Lagenostoma, and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs. The models <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seeds show <strong>the</strong> complexity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

interual structure, whilst those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>tically re-constructed<br />

Calamitean and o<strong>the</strong>r cones display <strong>the</strong> high organization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

vascular Cryptogams <strong>of</strong> Palaeozoic times.<br />

A discussion followed in which Dr. D. H. Scott, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor J. B.<br />

Farmer, and <strong>the</strong> President took part.<br />
