<strong>of</strong> thanks was passed.<br />

The Eev. T. E. E. Stebbing, F.E.S., F.L.S., on behalf <strong>of</strong><br />

Mrs. Sladen, presented a poi-trait in oils, kitcat size, by <strong>the</strong> late<br />

H. T. Wells, E.A., <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Mr. Walter Percy Sladen, who<br />

from 1885 to 1895 was Zoological Secretary. The President, in<br />

accepting <strong>the</strong> gift on behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, submitted <strong>the</strong> following<br />

Eesoiution, which was carried by acclamation :<br />

" That <strong>the</strong> portrait <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Walter Percy Sladen, for ten<br />

years Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Linnean</strong> <strong>Society</strong>, now <strong>of</strong>fered on behalf<br />

<strong>of</strong> Mrs. Sladen, be accepted, and that <strong>the</strong> grateful thanks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Society</strong> be conveyed to <strong>the</strong> Donor."<br />

Ml'. C. H. Weight, A.L.S., exhibited seeds <strong>of</strong> a new species <strong>of</strong><br />

^sc7i7/nanthus, described in a paper subsequently read.<br />

Mr. C. B. Clarke, P.E.S., P.L.S., showed specimens <strong>of</strong> a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Primrose, Primula vulgaris, Huds., with remarkably<br />

small flowers, to which he proposed to give <strong>the</strong> varietal name<br />

Chloe. (He subsequently considered that it was probably a hybrid<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Primrose and <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cowslip which is found<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Hampshire downs.)<br />

A photograph sent by Mr. J. Waby was shown, and an extract<br />

from his letter I'eceived with it was read, stating that two specimens<br />

<strong>of</strong> Qorypha data in <strong>the</strong> Georgetown Botanic Gardens, <strong>of</strong><br />

one had follou ed<br />

similar age and plantiug, were photographed :<br />

<strong>the</strong> normal course, flowered, fruited and died ; <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r, instead<br />

<strong>of</strong> flowering, had developed a secondary crown <strong>of</strong> leaves.<br />

Mr. Fredemce D. Ogilvie, <strong>of</strong> Harrogate, sent for exhibition<br />

a water-colour drawing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cowthorpe Oak, taken in 1902,<br />

thus bringing down <strong>the</strong> record one year later than <strong>the</strong> photographs<br />

shown by Mr. J. Clayton, on 19th February last, at <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Meeting held on that day.<br />

The Eev. John Gebaed, S.J., F.L.S., showed a fresh specimen<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proliferous form <strong>of</strong> Geum rivale, which he had received<br />

from Stonyhurst, Lancashire, a few days before.<br />
