Mr. Hugh Findon, Mr. James Eustace Eadcliffe McDouagh,<br />

Mr. Thomas Ha\^'kes Eussell, and Mr. Ernest Justus Schwartz<br />

were severally balloted for and elected Fellows.<br />

Dr. D. H. Scott, F.E.S., Sec.L.S., described " A New Type <strong>of</strong><br />

Stem \^Sutcliffia~\ from <strong>the</strong> Coal-Measures."<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. F. W. Oliver, Mr. W. C. Worsdell, Pr<strong>of</strong>. A. G. Tansley,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> President joined in a discussion, and <strong>the</strong> Author replied.<br />

The following papers were read and discussed :<br />

1. " Notes on some Species <strong>of</strong> Nereis in <strong>the</strong> District <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Thames Estuary." By Dr. H. C. Sorby, F.E.S., F.L.S.<br />

2. " Membranous Labyrinths <strong>of</strong> Echinorhinus and Gestracion."<br />

The Minutes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1st March were<br />

read and confirmed.<br />

and Mr. Ernest Justus Schwartz were admitted.<br />

Mr. Dhirendra Lai Day, M.A., B.Sc, and Colonel John<br />

"William Terbury, late E.A., were proposed as Fellows.<br />

Dr. Tempest Anderson was elected a Fellow.<br />

A letter from Dr. Chr. Aueivillius, Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kungi.<br />

Svenska Yetenskapsakademien, Stockholm, was read, in which<br />

presentation was made <strong>of</strong> copies by Jean Haagen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> portraits<br />

<strong>of</strong> Carl von Linne by Per Krafft <strong>the</strong> elder, and Alexander Eoslin,<br />

in possession <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academy, sent in acknowledgment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> loan<br />

<strong>of</strong> Linne's ' Philosophia Botauica ' interleaved and annotated by<br />

<strong>the</strong> author, which bad been returned a few weeks ago through <strong>the</strong><br />

Swedish Legation. A special vote <strong>of</strong> thanks for this most acceptable<br />

gift was moved from <strong>the</strong> Chair, and carried unanimously.<br />

Dr. D. H. Scott, F.E.S., Sec.L.S., read a communication from<br />

Dr. E. Zeiller, F.M.L.S., conveying his good wishes for a successful<br />

discussion that evening, w^hich he had been invited to open,<br />

but was prevented by his pr<strong>of</strong>essorial duties at <strong>the</strong> Ecole Nationale<br />

Superieure des Mines, Paris.<br />
