The Minutes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greueral Meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> loth June were<br />

read and confirmed.<br />

Colonel Arthur Henry McMahon, C.S.I., CLE,, was admitted a<br />

Fellow.<br />

Mr. Jesse Eeeves was elected a Fellow.<br />

Mr. Oakes Ames, A.B., A.M., Harvard; Mr. Edward Archibald<br />

Smith, M.B., F.E.C.S. ; The Et. Hon. William Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Bouchard<br />

de Montmorency, Viscount Mountmorres ; and Mr. Alfred Douglas<br />

Hardy, were ])roposed as Fellows.<br />

The Eev. George Henslow, M.A., F.L.S., exhibited <strong>the</strong> tails<br />

<strong>of</strong> trout and grayling to show <strong>the</strong> heterocercal origin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

homocercal tail, by means <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hypural bones which balance <strong>the</strong><br />

vertebra turning upward towards <strong>the</strong> upper lobe.<br />

The Eev. George Hexslow <strong>the</strong>n delivered an address on<br />

'• Plant Oecology, interpreted by direct response to <strong>the</strong> conditions<br />

<strong>of</strong> Life." He remarked that Plant Geography and Plant Survej*ing—that<br />

is, Phytotopography—comprise records <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fluctuating<br />
