The genus Eujilu'asia was liis special study during <strong>the</strong> last few<br />

years <strong>of</strong> his life, and he described one form as E. canadensis which<br />

he ga<strong>the</strong>red at Quebec, and figured in <strong>the</strong> ' Journal <strong>of</strong> Botany<br />

for January 1898.<br />

He was a Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Botanical <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> Edinburgh so far<br />

back as 1846, and also <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Societe botanique de France from<br />

1872, to whose ' Bulletin ' Veronica.<br />

He was an accomplished draughtsman, and excelled in<br />

certain field sports, but was extremely modest and free from <strong>the</strong><br />

slightest suspicion <strong>of</strong> ostentation. From his residence being far<br />

removed from Loudon, he was not a frequent attendant at our<br />

Meetings, but almost every few months he was accustomed to<br />

work in our <strong>Library</strong>, and paid constant visits to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Botany, British Museum.<br />
