5.1.3.4 Other payment systems<br />

In addition to the f<strong>in</strong>ancial arrangements for the different rehabilitation modalities, some<br />

centres can benefit from other sources of <strong>in</strong>come such as subsidies from the Regional<br />

Funds (VFSIPH, AWIPH,…) and Institutions (VIPA, CRAC, COCOM), for example for<br />

build<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

VIPA (Vlaams Infrastructuurfonds voor Persoonsgebonden Aangelegenheden): Flem<strong>is</strong>h<br />

public <strong>in</strong>stitution. As a f<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>strument VIPA provides f<strong>in</strong>ancial support to welfare and<br />

health prov<strong>is</strong>ions for <strong>in</strong>frastructural works <strong>in</strong> e.g. hospitals and elderly care <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong><br />

Flanders.<br />

CRAC (Centre régional d'aide aux communes): Walloon public <strong>in</strong>stitution that superv<strong>is</strong>es<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>is</strong>sues of the municipalities and the hospitals <strong>in</strong> Wallonia.<br />

COCOM (Comm<strong>is</strong>sion communautaire commune): public <strong>in</strong>stitution of the region of<br />

Brussels-capital, responsible for health policy and health <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />

Moreover, specific products and materials (e.g. pharmaceuticals, devices,…) can be<br />

reimbursed separately, both for hospital<strong>is</strong>ed and for ambulatory patients.<br />

5.1.3.5 Sources of data<br />

All data concern<strong>in</strong>g the different systems (descriptions and expenditures) were supplied by<br />

the RIZIV/INAMI (National Institute of sickness and <strong>in</strong>validity <strong>in</strong>surance) and the FOD<br />

Volksgezondheid (Federal Service of Health, Food Cha<strong>in</strong> Safety and Environment<br />

Organ<strong>is</strong>ation of Health Care Establ<strong>is</strong>hments).<br />

5.1.4 Inventory of different rehabilitation services<br />

5.1.4.1 Departments of Physical Medic<strong>in</strong>e and Rehabilitation<br />

Surpr<strong>is</strong><strong>in</strong>gly there ex<strong>is</strong>ts no central reg<strong>is</strong>ter of the departments of physical medic<strong>in</strong>e and<br />

rehabilitation. It <strong>is</strong> presumed that most of the acute/general hospitals <strong>in</strong> Belgium d<strong>is</strong>pose of<br />

such a department.<br />

5.1.4.2 Rehabilitation centres <strong>with</strong> a convention (9.50 or 7.71)<br />

In Figure 5.6 an overview <strong>is</strong> given of the geographical d<strong>is</strong>tribution of the 46 rehabilitation<br />

centres <strong>with</strong> a 9.50 convention and the 7 rehabilitation centres <strong>with</strong> a 7.71 convention<br />

mention<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

• the number of 9.50 centres <strong>in</strong> each of the 10 Belgian prov<strong>in</strong>ces and<br />

the Brussels region<br />

• the different locations of the 7.71 centres<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong>ventory <strong>is</strong> based on data from RIZIV/INAMI.
