4. After you download all the PKT files to the Management Module, restart the
Management Module Web interface, select MM Control → Restart MM.
5.4.2 LAN Switch I/O Module firmware
The method you should use to upgrade the firmware of a LAN switch module
depends on the type of switch module. We demonstrate how you can upgrade
firmware for the 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module, which is the switch
module we used in our testing.
For information about upgrading firmware in the Nortel Networks Layer 2-7
Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module, refer to the Nortel Networks Layer 2-7 GbE
Switch Module for IBM Eserver BladeCenter Installation Guide.
For information about upgrading firmware in the Cisco Systems Intelligent
Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module, refer to the Cisco Systems Intelligent Gigabit
Ethernet Switch Module for the IBM Eserver BladeCenter Installation Guide.
1. Download the firmware update package from the IBM support Web site. This
is usually a ZIP file that contains the firmware image file.
2. Unzip the firmware update package into a directory on the workstation where
you are running the Web browser that you use to connect the Management
Module Web interface.
3. Before you can upgrade the firmware of the 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch
Module, configure an IP address for the switch module management
interface. This enables the capability to directly connect to the switch module
Web interface. To configure the IP address of the switch module management
interface, see 5.2, “LAN Switch I/O Module configuration” on page 73.
4. Connect to the switch module Web interface via the Management Module
Web interface using the following procedure:
a. In the Management Module Web interface, select I/O Module Tasks →
Management.
b. Select the Advanced Management link for the I/O module bay where the
switch module is installed.
c. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the Start Telnet/Web Session
category. Click the Start Web Session button.
d. A new window opens for the switch module Web interface. You are
prompted to provide a user ID and a password. The default user ID is
USERID, and the default password is PASSW0RD, where the number 0 is
between the letters W and R in the password. Consider changing the
defaults in a production environment.
