To use the SoL remote text console function, first connect to the Management<br />

Module from a Telnet or SSH client. You are prompted to enter a user ID and<br />

password. <strong>The</strong> default user ID is USERID and the default password is<br />

PASSW0RD, where 0 in the default password is a zero. Consider changing the<br />

defaults in a production environment.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are several different commands that you can use to access the SoL<br />

remote text console function. <strong>The</strong> most useful commands are listed in Table 5-2.<br />

Table 5-2 Management Module commands for SoL<br />

Command What it does<br />

console Open a SoL remote text console for the blade server. This<br />

command fails if another SoL remote text console is already open<br />

for the blade server.<br />

console -o Terminate any existing SoL remote text console for the blade server<br />

and open a SoL remote text console for the blade server.<br />

boot -c Reset the blade server, and then open a SoL remote text console<br />

for the blade server.<br />

reset -c This is functionally equivalent to the boot -c command when used<br />

in a blade server context.<br />

power -on -c Power on the blade server and then open a SoL remote text<br />

console for the blade server.<br />

power -cycle -c Power on the blade server and then open a SoL remote text<br />

console for the blade server. If the blade server is already powered<br />

on, power it off first, and then power on.<br />

Here are some examples of how to use these commands. To open a SoL remote<br />

text console to the blade server in bay 3, you use the following command:<br />

console -T system:blade[3]<br />

To reset the blade server in bay 2 and then open a SoL remote text console to the<br />

blade server, you use the following command:<br />

boot -c -T system:blade[2]<br />

To terminate an active SoL remote text console, press the Esc key followed by an<br />

open parenthesis (Shift+9 on U.S. keyboards). When the SoL remote text<br />

console ends, you return to the Management Module CLI prompt.<br />

Inactivity timeout<br />

<strong>The</strong> Management Module CLI has an aggressive default inactivity timeout. If you<br />

do not use the CLI or a SoL remote text console accessed through the CLI for 2<br />
