In our scenario, we used a hosts file as shown in Example 8-3. Example 8-3 /etc/hosts on management node 127.0.0.1 localhost 192.168.1.20 mgr 192.168.1.117 blade1 192.168.1.118 blade2 192.168.1.119 blade3 9.3.5.190 bcmm Obtaining the latest CSM software and prerequisites You can obtain the latest CSM software from: http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/cluster/fixes/csmfixhome.html Check this Web site for the latest CSM software even if you have CSM available on CD, because new CSM software releases occur every few months. The CSM software available at the previous Web site is under a 60-day Try and Buy license. If you are performing a permanent CSM installation, you need to have purchased an appropriate quantity of CSM licenses. You also need the full license file that is contained on the CSM product CD. We downloaded two different versions of CSM: one for the management node (xSeries based) and one for the BladeCenter JS20 cluster nodes. The two versions of CSM that we downloaded were: ► CSM for Linux on xSeries V1.4.0.4 ► CSM for Linux on pSeries V1.4.0.4 Follow these steps: 1. Type the following command: mkdir /tmp/csm_i386 2. Now type this command: mkdir /tmp/csm_js20 150 The IBM Eserver BladeCenter JS20
3. Download the two CSM tarballs into their respective directories created in steps 1 and 2. 4. Change to /tmp/csm_i386 and run the following command: tar -xvzf csm-linux-1.4.0.0.i386.tar.gz 5. Change to /tmp/csm_js20 and run the following command: tar -xvzf csm-linux-1.4.0.ppc64.tar.gz 6. We created a directory for such prerequisite packages as Autoupdate called /tmp/csmpreq. Autoupdate is a package that is used by CSM. We downloaded Version 5.3.11-1 from the following URL and placed it into the /tmp/csmpreq directory. http://ftp.mat.univie.ac.at/pub/teschl/autoupdate/index.html Installing core CSM RPM You must be logged into the management node as root to perform this step. We installed the core CSM RPM on the management node using this command: # rpm -ivh /tmp/csm_i386/csm.core*.i386.rpm When you run the rpm command and install the CSM core, CSM sets the $PATH and $MANPATH environment variables. Therefore, you must log out and then log in again to the management node after performing the installation to accept the changes to the environment variables that are required when performing subsequent installation steps. Running CSM installation program After logging back into the management node as root, we ran the CSM installation program using the following command: # installms -p /tmp/csm_i386:/tmp/csmpreq Note: The installms command is found in the /opt/csm/bin directory after you install the CMS core. The -p option of the installms command allows you to specify the location where the CSM installation program should search for the files it needs. We specified the two directories where we placed the CSM software and prerequisites for the management node hardware architecture that we were using. The installms command prompts you to insert operating system CDs if it cannot find the operating system packages that it needs in one of the directories listed after the -p option. You are also prompted to replace the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) daemon provided with the Linux distribution with a replacement Chapter 8. System management scenarios 151
