2.3.3 Features of the PowerPC 970 and PowerPC 970FX
The IBM PowerPC 970 Microprocessor is a recent implementation of 64-bit
PowerPC Architecture designed for use in workstations and small servers
requiring from one to four processors. The PowerPC 970 is based on the
processor core used in the POWER4 with the addition of a VXU to support the
VMX extensions to the PowerPC Architecture.
The IBM PowerPC 970FX RISC Microprocessor is an enhanced version of the
PowerPC 970 that takes advantage of improvements in semiconductor
manufacturing processes to deliver higher performance and lower power
consumption. In most respects, the PowerPC 970FX is identical to the PowerPC
970.
