This validates that the required minimum options are populated prior to saving. 6.4 Performing an unattended installation The unattended installation process needs to pass the zImage.initrd the location of the unattended answer file during boot. Unfortunately, BOOTP does not have a facility to provide anything more than the location to the zImage.initrd and the tftpboot server to the client. 6.4.1 Open Firmware For instructions about accessing the Open Firmware prompt, refer to “Activating the Open Firmware interfaces” on page 94. When you reach the Open Firmware prompt, pass bootparm through the boot-file variable. Example 6-8 and Example 6-9 show the settings for SuSE and Red Hat respectively. If this value is not cleared, it is passed to the kernel as bootparm next time you boot. You can clear the value by using the nvsetenv command. We recommend that you run this command after the installation completes via either AutoYaST or Kickstart, as appropriate. This command is provided by the ppc64-utils RPM in RHEL and the util-linux RPM in SLES. The syntax to clear the boot-file variable is: # /sbin/nvsetenv boot-file "" 6.4.2 mkzimage_cmdline: SuSE only mkzimage_cmdline is a utility contained in the SLES 9 lilo RPM. The SuSE kernel has special markers that allow mkzimage_cmdline to pass bootparm information directly through the zImage.initrd. Example 6-10 shows the syntax.
