which in <strong>the</strong> sharp Might <strong>of</strong> God, in <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regeneration,<br />
out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eternal Mind, out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anxiety in <strong>the</strong> Fireflash<br />
in <strong>the</strong> Sharpness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> [Destroying or] Breaking <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Darkness,<br />
and q Breaking forth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Light in <strong>the</strong> Meekness, out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
eternal Will from Eternity, goes forth out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> God, with<br />
<strong>the</strong> sharp Fiat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> great Might <strong>of</strong> God; and it is <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit <strong>of</strong><br />
God, which is in <strong>the</strong> Virtue [or Power] <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r, and goes eternally<br />
forth from <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r through <strong>the</strong> Word, out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mouth <strong>of</strong> God.<br />
The Gate <strong>of</strong> God’s Wonders in <strong>the</strong> Rose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lily.<br />
83. Now Reason asks; Whi<strong>the</strong>r goes <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit, when he<br />
goes forth out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r and Son, through <strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> God?<br />
Behold, thou sick Adam, here <strong>the</strong> Gate <strong>of</strong> Heaven stands open,<br />
and very well to be understood, by those that will, [or have a<br />
Mind to it.] For <strong>the</strong> Bride says, Come, and whosoever thirsteth,<br />
let him come, and whosoever comes, drinks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fountain <strong>of</strong><br />
Knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eternal Life in <strong>the</strong> Smell and Virtue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lily<br />
<strong>of</strong> God in Paradise.<br />
84. As is mentioned above, so <strong>the</strong> Ground <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Trinity is<br />
in one only divine and undivided <strong>Essence</strong>, [Being, or Substance,]<br />
God <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r, Son, and Holy Ghost, from Eternity arising from<br />
nothing, always generated from and out <strong>of</strong> itself from Eternity;<br />
not beginning nor ending, but dwelling in itself, comprehended by<br />
nothing, having nei<strong>the</strong>r Beginning nor End, subject to no Locality,<br />
nor Limit [Number] nor Place. It has no Place <strong>of</strong> its Rest,<br />
but <strong>the</strong> Deep is greater than we [can perceive or] think, and yet<br />
it is no Deep, but it is <strong>the</strong> unsearchable Eternity; and if any here<br />
will think [to find] an End or Limit, <strong>the</strong>y will be confounded<br />
[or disturbed] by <strong>the</strong> Deity, for <strong>the</strong>re is none; it is <strong>the</strong> End <strong>of</strong><br />
Nature. And whosoever [goes about to] think [or dive with, his<br />
Thoughts] r deeper, does like Lucifer, who in [Highmindedness<br />
or] Pride would fly out above <strong>the</strong> Deity, and yet <strong>the</strong>re was no<br />
Place, but he went on himself, into <strong>the</strong> fiery Fierceness, and so he<br />
perished [wi<strong>the</strong>red, or became dry as] to <strong>the</strong> Fountain <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Kingdom <strong>of</strong> God.<br />
q Opening or unshutting.<br />
r Or fur<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
85. Now see <strong>the</strong> Lily, thou noble Mind, full <strong>of</strong> Anguish and<br />
Afflictions <strong>of</strong> this World; behold, <strong>the</strong> Holy Trinity has an eternal<br />
Will in itself, and <strong>the</strong> Will is <strong>the</strong> Desiring, and <strong>the</strong> Desiring is <strong>the</strong><br />
eternal <strong>Essence</strong>s, wherein <strong>the</strong>n stands <strong>the</strong> Sharpness (viz. <strong>the</strong> Fiat)<br />
which goes forth out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Heart, and out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mouth <strong>of</strong> God<br />
by <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit <strong>of</strong> God. And <strong>the</strong> Will [that is] gone forth out<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spirit, [that] is <strong>the</strong> divine Virtue, which conceives [or comprehends]<br />
<strong>the</strong> Will, and holds it, and <strong>the</strong> Fiat creates it [viz. that<br />
Virtue,] so that in it, as in God himself, all <strong>Essence</strong>s are, and [so
