Things, y and for poor Lazarus <strong>the</strong>re is no Thought; <strong>the</strong>re <strong>the</strong><br />
five Counsellors are very soon agreed, for in <strong>the</strong>ir own Form<br />
<strong>the</strong>y are all unrighteous before God; but according to <strong>the</strong> Region<br />
<strong>of</strong> this World <strong>the</strong>y are very firm. Thus <strong>the</strong>y counsel <strong>the</strong> King,<br />
and <strong>the</strong> King gives it to <strong>the</strong> Spirit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Soul, which ga<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

y Or <strong>the</strong> sick Soul is not regarded.<br />
up <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong>s, and falls too with Hands and Mouth. But if<br />
<strong>the</strong>y are Words [that are to be expressed] <strong>the</strong>n it brings <strong>the</strong>m<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Ro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mouth, and <strong>the</strong>re <strong>the</strong> five Counsellors distinguish<br />
[or separate] <strong>the</strong>m according to <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mind;<br />
and fur<strong>the</strong>r [<strong>the</strong> Spirit brings <strong>the</strong>m upon <strong>the</strong> Tongue, and <strong>the</strong>re<br />
<strong>the</strong> Senses [divide or] distinguish <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> Flash, [Glance,<br />
or in a Moment.]<br />
23. And <strong>the</strong>re stand <strong>the</strong> three <strong>Principles</strong> in Strife. The first<br />
Principle, viz. <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> Sternness [or wrathful Fierceness]<br />
says, Go forth in <strong>the</strong> Midst <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> strong Might <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Fire, it must be [so;] <strong>the</strong>n says <strong>the</strong> second [Principle] in <strong>the</strong><br />
Mind, Stay and consider, God is here with <strong>the</strong> Virgin, fear <strong>the</strong><br />
Abyss <strong>of</strong> Hell; and <strong>the</strong> third [Principle,] viz. <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong><br />
this World says, Here we are at Home, we must have it [so,]<br />
that we may adorn and sustain <strong>the</strong> Body, it must be [so;] and<br />
it takes <strong>the</strong> Region <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Air, viz. its own Spirit, and brings<br />
that [Region] out at <strong>the</strong> Mouth, and keeps <strong>the</strong> z Distinction according<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> this World.<br />
24. And thus <strong>the</strong>re goes forth out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earthly a Senses and<br />
Mind, Lies and Folly, Deceit and Falsehood, [also] mere Subtilty,<br />
[with Lust and Desire] to be elevated; many [to be elevated]<br />
in <strong>the</strong> Might <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fire, as by Force and Anger; and<br />
many by human Art and b Policy <strong>of</strong> this World, c which is but a<br />
Knave in <strong>the</strong> Sight <strong>of</strong> God, yet wrestles [or holds fast] till it<br />
has prevailed; many in <strong>the</strong> Form <strong>of</strong> a tame and gentle Beast,<br />
very cunningly alluring, and drawing to itself, under a d fair<br />
Pretence; many in Pride, and Stateliness <strong>of</strong> Body [in Carriage]<br />
and Manners, which is a right diabolical Beast, who contemns<br />
all that does not please him, and elevates himself above all Meekness<br />
and Humility, and over <strong>the</strong> Image <strong>of</strong> God; yea, <strong>the</strong>re is<br />
so very much <strong>of</strong> false Untowardness, that I may not mention it;<br />
every one follows <strong>the</strong> Region [Rule or Dominion] <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stars, even<br />
that which serves most to <strong>the</strong> Voluptuousness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earthly Life.
