<strong>the</strong> Parent’s, but its own. The Mo<strong>the</strong>r affords but a Lodging,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Nutriment; and <strong>the</strong>refore if she destroys it willingly in<br />

her Body, she is a Murderer, and <strong>the</strong> divine Law judges her to<br />

<strong>the</strong> temporal Death.<br />

40. Thus now <strong>the</strong> Stars and <strong>the</strong> Elements (after <strong>the</strong> withdrawing<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Love in <strong>the</strong> Tincture) take <strong>the</strong> House into Possession,<br />

and fill it in <strong>the</strong> first m Month. And in <strong>the</strong> second, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

sever <strong>the</strong> Members [or Parts] by <strong>the</strong> sour Fiat, as is mentioned<br />

before. And in <strong>the</strong> third, <strong>the</strong> Strife begins about <strong>the</strong> Regions <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Stars and Elements, where <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>y separate, and every Element<br />

makes its own House and Region for itself; viz. <strong>the</strong> Heart,<br />

Liver, Lungs, Bladder, and Stomach; as also <strong>the</strong> Head to be <strong>the</strong><br />

n House <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stars, where <strong>the</strong>y have <strong>the</strong>ir Region [or Dominion,]<br />

and <strong>the</strong>ir princely Throne, as it follows fur<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

41. And now after that <strong>the</strong> Stars and Elements (as is mentioned<br />

before) have got <strong>the</strong>ir Region and <strong>the</strong> House to dwell in,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n begins <strong>the</strong> mighty Strife in great Anxiety about <strong>the</strong> King<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Life. For <strong>the</strong> Chamber <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Building (or Fabrick]<br />

stands in very great Anguish, and [here] we must consider <strong>the</strong><br />

Original <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong> <strong>of</strong> all <strong>Essence</strong>s, <strong>the</strong> eternal Birth and <strong>the</strong><br />

Root <strong>of</strong> all Things; as that <strong>the</strong>re is in <strong>the</strong> House <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anguish,<br />

first one only <strong>Essence</strong> [or Being,] and that o <strong>Essence</strong> is <strong>the</strong> Mixing<br />

<strong>of</strong> all p <strong>Essence</strong>s, and it has first a Will to q generate <strong>the</strong><br />

Light, and that Will is attractive, [astringent or sour.]<br />

k The Creature.<br />

l Or Hell.<br />

m Or Moon.<br />

n A Dwelling for <strong>the</strong> Senses and Thoughts.<br />

o Being.<br />

p Or Beings.<br />

q Or bring forth.<br />

42. For <strong>the</strong> Desiring is <strong>the</strong> attracting <strong>of</strong> whatsoever <strong>the</strong> Will<br />

desires; and that Will is first pure, nei<strong>the</strong>r Darkness nor Light,<br />

for it dwells in itself, and it is even <strong>the</strong> Gate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> divine Virtue<br />

that fills all Things. And thus <strong>the</strong> Attracting fills <strong>the</strong> Will with<br />

<strong>the</strong> Things which <strong>the</strong> Will desires; and although it be pure, and<br />

desires nothing but <strong>the</strong> Light, yet <strong>the</strong>re is no Light in <strong>the</strong> dark<br />

Anxiety that it can attract, but it draws <strong>the</strong> Spirit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong>s<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stars and Elements into itself, and <strong>the</strong>rewith <strong>the</strong><br />

Will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> divine Virtue is filled, and <strong>the</strong> same is all rough and<br />

dark. And thus <strong>the</strong> Will is set in <strong>the</strong> Darkness, and this is done<br />

also in <strong>the</strong> Heart.<br />

43. The Will now standing thus in <strong>the</strong> dark Anxiety, it r gets<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r Will to fly out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anxiety again, and to generate <strong>the</strong><br />

Light; and this o<strong>the</strong>r Will is <strong>the</strong> Mind, out <strong>of</strong> which proceed <strong>the</strong><br />

Senses [or Thoughts] not to continue in <strong>the</strong> Anxiety: And <strong>the</strong><br />

Will [appears,] discovers itself in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sourness,<br />

as in <strong>the</strong> fierce Hardness <strong>of</strong> Death; and <strong>the</strong> Glimpse [or Glance]
