<strong>the</strong>refore she has longed after <strong>the</strong> Similitude, and that Longing<br />
makes <strong>the</strong> Attracting in <strong>the</strong> Will, and <strong>the</strong> Will stood [f right]<br />
against <strong>the</strong> Similitude; and <strong>the</strong> Fiat in <strong>the</strong> Attracting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Willing, created <strong>the</strong> Will in <strong>the</strong> Similitude, out <strong>of</strong> which came<br />
<strong>the</strong> Angels all toge<strong>the</strong>r. But now <strong>the</strong> eternal <strong>Essence</strong> was in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Similitude, and <strong>the</strong> Wisdom discovered [or manifested] herself<br />
in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong>s in many thousand Thousands, that <strong>the</strong> eternal<br />
Wonders might be revealed [or made manifest;] and <strong>the</strong>reupon<br />
<strong>the</strong>re went forth (according to every <strong>Essence</strong>, as out <strong>of</strong> a Fountain)<br />
many thousand Thousands.<br />
4. And from <strong>the</strong>nce came <strong>the</strong> Names <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Thrones and<br />
Principalities, all according to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Essence</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first and great<br />
g Source, which in <strong>the</strong> Discovering <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eternal Wisdom <strong>of</strong><br />

God goes forth again into many thousand Thousands, yet <strong>the</strong>re<br />
is a certain Number [<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m,] and in <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>of</strong> God none,<br />
[or no Number but Infinity;] and thus out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fountain <strong>of</strong><br />
every <strong>Essence</strong> are gone forth, first <strong>the</strong> h Thrones, and in <strong>the</strong><br />
Throne many thousand Thousands.<br />
5. These <strong>the</strong> Fiat created to a Similitude and Image <strong>of</strong> God,<br />
and overshadowed <strong>the</strong> same in <strong>the</strong> Fiat with <strong>the</strong> overflowing<br />
Virtue <strong>of</strong> God; and <strong>the</strong> Will <strong>of</strong> God i set itself [right] against<br />
<strong>the</strong> Image and Similitude, and <strong>the</strong>y now which received <strong>the</strong><br />
Will, <strong>the</strong>y became Angels, for <strong>the</strong>y set <strong>the</strong>ir Imagination, in <strong>the</strong><br />
Will, in <strong>the</strong> Heart <strong>of</strong> God, and <strong>the</strong>y did eat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Verbum<br />
Domini [<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord;] but <strong>the</strong>y that set <strong>the</strong>ir Imagination<br />
in <strong>the</strong> dark Mind, as Lucifer [did, that he might] fly<br />
out above <strong>the</strong> Deity and Meekness in <strong>the</strong> Might <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fire in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Flash, in <strong>the</strong> sharp Might <strong>of</strong> God, and be Lord alone, <strong>the</strong>y<br />
became Devils, and <strong>the</strong>y have that Name from <strong>the</strong>ir being thrust<br />
[or driven] out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Light; for <strong>the</strong>y were in <strong>the</strong> Light when<br />
<strong>the</strong> Fiat created <strong>the</strong>m, for <strong>the</strong> Fiat which created <strong>the</strong>m stood in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Light.<br />
6. Thus <strong>the</strong> Devil is <strong>the</strong> Fault, and guilty <strong>of</strong> his own Fall, for<br />
he suffered himself to be moved by <strong>the</strong> Matrix <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> k Sternness,<br />
[Fierceness, Sourness, or Wrath,] whereas he yet had his own<br />
Will to take hold <strong>of</strong> Light or Darkness. And Lucifer was a<br />
Throne (that is, a l Source [or Fountain] <strong>of</strong> a great <strong>Essence</strong>)<br />
from whence went forth all his Servants [or Ministers,] and<br />
<strong>the</strong>y did like him; and also <strong>the</strong>y were thrust back into <strong>the</strong> Darkness,<br />
for <strong>the</strong> Light <strong>of</strong> God goes not into <strong>the</strong> [Grimness, Wrath<br />
or] Fierceness.
