<strong>the</strong> Harshness causes <strong>the</strong> Attracting, and <strong>the</strong> Stirring <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Attracting to Mobility causes <strong>the</strong> Bitterness, which is <strong>the</strong> Woe,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Woe causes <strong>the</strong> Anguish, and <strong>the</strong> Anguish causes <strong>the</strong><br />

Moving, Breaking, and Rising up. Now <strong>the</strong> sour Harshness cannot<br />

endure <strong>the</strong> Stirring, and <strong>the</strong>refore attracts <strong>the</strong> harder to itself;<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Bitterness or <strong>the</strong> Attracting will not endure to be stayed,<br />

but breaks and stings so very hard in <strong>the</strong> Attracting, that it stirs<br />

up <strong>the</strong> Heat, wherein <strong>the</strong> Flash springs up, and <strong>the</strong> dark [Sourness<br />

or] Harshness is affrighted by <strong>the</strong> Flash, and in <strong>the</strong> Shriek<br />

<strong>the</strong> Fire kindles, and in <strong>the</strong> Fire <strong>the</strong> Light. Now <strong>the</strong>re would be<br />

no Light if <strong>the</strong> Shriek in <strong>the</strong> Hardness had not been, but <strong>the</strong>re<br />

would have remained nothing but Fire; yet <strong>the</strong> Shriek in <strong>the</strong><br />

Harshness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fire kills <strong>the</strong> hard Harshness, so that it sinks<br />

down as it were to <strong>the</strong> Ground, and becomes as it were dead<br />

and s<strong>of</strong>t; and when <strong>the</strong> Flash perceives itself in <strong>the</strong> Harshness,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n it is affrighted much more, because it finds <strong>the</strong> Mo<strong>the</strong>r so<br />

very mild, and half dead in Weakness; and so in this Shriek<br />

its fiery Property becomes white, s<strong>of</strong>t, and mild, and it is <strong>the</strong><br />

Kindling <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Light, wherein <strong>the</strong> Fire is changed into a white<br />

Clarity, [Glance, Luster, or Brightness.]<br />

23. In such a Manner as this <strong>the</strong> Sun rose up in <strong>the</strong> Fiat, and<br />

out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sun (in its first Kindling) [rose] <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Planets,<br />

viz. upwards, out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> raging Bitterness, Mars [rose,] which<br />

o Inferior God.<br />

p To.<br />

<strong>the</strong> Splendor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sun stayed [or upheld] when it discovered<br />

q it: And out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Virtue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sun, which raised itself higher,<br />

[rose] Jupiter imprisoned in <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fiat: And out<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chamber <strong>of</strong> Anguish [rose] Saturnus: And downwards<br />

Venus [rose] from <strong>the</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t Mildness, when <strong>the</strong> Harshness was<br />

overcome, and was s<strong>of</strong>t, sweet, and sinking down like Water.<br />

And when <strong>the</strong> Light kindled, <strong>the</strong>n out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sour harsh Wrath<br />

came Love and Humility to be, running downwards: And out<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> overcome Virtue in <strong>the</strong> sour Harshness [rose Mercurius,]<br />

wherein stands <strong>the</strong> Knowledge <strong>of</strong> what was in <strong>the</strong> Original<br />

before <strong>the</strong> Light: But when <strong>the</strong> Light made <strong>the</strong> Virtue in <strong>the</strong><br />

Place <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sun material, as it were in an earthly Manner<br />

[rose] <strong>the</strong> Moon.<br />

24. This <strong>the</strong> World comprehends not, but scorns it, <strong>the</strong>refore<br />

I will here no fur<strong>the</strong>r cast <strong>the</strong> Pearl before <strong>the</strong> Swine, for <strong>the</strong>re<br />

belongs ano<strong>the</strong>r Light to this Knowledge; <strong>the</strong>refore I will pass<br />

that by, and go on.<br />

25. Out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anguish <strong>of</strong> Darkness (when God spoke <strong>the</strong><br />

[Word] Fiat <strong>the</strong>rein) came forth all Things: The Anguish has<br />

its Original in <strong>the</strong> Fiat, and <strong>the</strong> Fiat [has its Original] in <strong>the</strong><br />

Will, and <strong>the</strong> Will is eternal without Original; for it is (in God)
