EXEMPTIONS:<br />

FEES/COSTS:<br />
Application Filing Fee: $500 for any single parcel located in the same section or across two<br />
contiguous sections (noncontiguous parcels located within the same section or in other<br />
sections require separate application).<br />
Advertising Fees: Range between $2,000 and $3,000. It is required that each sale be<br />
advertised in two separate newspapers for 10 weeks. Each sale is always advertised in the<br />
Arizona Capitol Times and the newspaper located the closest to the proposed mining<br />
operation.<br />
Archaeological Surveys: Cost varies. Surveys are the responsibility of the applicant and are<br />
usually handled through contract with an archeologist qualified through the Arizona State<br />
Museum.<br />
Appraisal Fees: Paid for by the applicant generally cost between $5,000 and $8,000 and<br />
contracted through the Department.<br />
Royalties: Paid for products sold (normally valued on a per ton basis). The Department is<br />
required to obtain fair market value for products sold which is accomplished through the<br />
public auction process.<br />
Rents: Based upon a percentage of the appraised land value.<br />
Bonds and Indemnity Insurance: Amounts vary with the scope and location of the operation.<br />
PROCESSING TIME:<br />
Processing time can vary between nine months and one year. Statute requires 10 weeks of<br />
advertising. Other factors impacting processing time are: environmental and cultural issues,<br />
mine operating plan approval and land-use conflicts.<br />
