BRIEf dESCRIpTIon <strong>of</strong> ThE oRganIzaTIon<br />

UCMB is a research unit <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> the Academy <strong>of</strong> Science <strong>of</strong> <strong>Moldova</strong>, comprising <strong>of</strong> 3<br />

laboratories : The Laboratory <strong>of</strong> Bioinformatics, Laboratory <strong>of</strong> Genomics, and Laboratory <strong>of</strong> Proteomics.<br />

Over 20 people are engaged in research activities, the majority being young scientists.<br />

The main objective <strong>of</strong> research is : • sunflower genetics and physiology; • cytoplasmic male sterility and<br />

the impact <strong>of</strong> abiotic and biotic factors; • the investigation <strong>of</strong> medicinal plants for their genetic variability<br />

and biochemical contents; • the exploratory analysis <strong>of</strong> gene expression under various conditions.<br />

administration and manipulation <strong>of</strong> various types <strong>of</strong> biologic data. • Exploratory analysis <strong>of</strong> gene<br />

expression under various conditions; • Gene expression in frame <strong>of</strong> genetic system CMS-Rf and induced<br />

male sterility (IMS) in plants (sunflower) • The study <strong>of</strong> biochemical and molecular mechanism <strong>of</strong> hostparasite<br />

interactions (model system Helianthus annuus L.- Orobanche cumana Wallr.). • The analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

polymorphism in different cultivated plants for the evidence <strong>of</strong> some molecular markers <strong>of</strong> valuable traits<br />

• Genetic variability and biochemical content in medicinal plants. • GMO testing.<br />
