living in Surrey. My first
photography experience was a
rather unsuccessful attempt at
underwater photography during
a scuba diving holiday in the
Red Sea in 2005. Just like a
bad workman who blames his
tools, I still blame the camera
I used at the time for my lack
of success! It was a cheap and
nasty $10 box that I bought in a
local scuba shop. At some point
I upgraded to a real camera, this
time an Olympus SP350 with an
underwater housing and a very
expensive underwater flashgun.
Things moved quickly from
there. Photography proved way
too much fun to do only during
my diving holidays, so I bought
an Olympus DSLR, a copy of
Light—Science & Magic, and
2 years later I’m still learning
new stuff and have built up a
diverse portfolio. My interests
include glassware photography,
off-camera flash (speed lights
and studio work), high-speed
photography, and working with
alternative models. I’m also
an occasional contributor to
photography magazines, and
my work (pictures and articles)
has been published in various
UK and web publications such
as Underwater Photography web
magazine (uwpmag.com), DSLR
User, What Digital Camera (Flash
Supplement), and Olympus User.
Anton Lenke: Anton Lenke
remains enigmatic. Some say
he has shot Czech supermodels
while hanging out of an airplane.
Others claim he can build a
camera with a shoebox, a dart,
and the chain from a 1957 Harley
Davidson. The superhuman stories
continue to grow, but the proof
is in the portfolio. For more, visit
Ryan McGehee: When I was 18
I graduated from the New York
Institute of Photography (having
enrolled when I was 16). This
helped start me on my journey of
photography. Now, many years
later, my passion for this art has
continued to increase. I enjoy
capturing the beautiful moments
in this world. Photography allows
me to create works that I can
share with others, that which I see
and feel. It may be an entire valley
below me or the way the shadows
fall on the snow. It may be the way
the light ripples across the water
or the perfection of a little detail.
Whatever it is, it is that which I
connect to, that I become a part
of. This I try to capture the essence
of, that feeling, that moment.
Knowing that I will always be
a student in this amazing craft,
I continually try to learn how to
capture and present this beautiful
world at its best. I want to be
able to connect the viewers of my
work with the beauty, uniqueness,
and poetry of this world through
my eyes, my photography.
They tell me a person can get
a lot by asking, so if you’re
looking for a photographer,
I would love to have the
opportunity to bring my vision
to your commercial or editorial
project. Contact me at ryan@
