Infrared trigger
Technically, we could simply
consider these to be a special
type of light-sensitive trigger,
as infrared is simply another
frequency of light that happens
to be invisible to humans. The
similarity ends there, though:
most infrared triggers are highly
intelligent. They allow both the
camera and the flash to measure
the scene, think about what each
sees from its viewpoint, and
agree with each other about what
the camera is going to do and
what the light is going to do.
These are expensive, but some
of the cost is reduced by not
having to buy a separate device.
The system may be ideal for (1)
absolute novice photographers
who want as much automation
as possible so they don’t
have to spend a lot of study
time and (2) highly experienced
photographers who want the
system to take over a lot of the
