outine thinking, but know when<br />
to override <strong>the</strong> automati<strong>on</strong> to<br />
get a better picture. The fact that<br />
you are taking <strong>the</strong> time to read<br />
this book probably means that<br />
you fit nei<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong>se categories.<br />
Disadvantage 1. These triggers<br />
tend to be brand specific. If we<br />
want <strong>on</strong>e maker’s camera and<br />
ano<strong>the</strong>r maker’s flash, <strong>the</strong>y<br />
may speak different languages.<br />
The extra cost is wasted.<br />
Disadvantage 2. These often<br />
provide <strong>on</strong>ly short-range<br />
communicati<strong>on</strong>. Sometimes <strong>the</strong><br />
best of <strong>the</strong> dumb visible light<br />
triggers will work over greater<br />
range.<br />
Radio trigger<br />
These triggers require a transmitter<br />
<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> camera and ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />
<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> light. They allow remote<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol of a specific brand<br />
of flash by ano<strong>the</strong>r maker’s<br />
camera. Some models of this<br />
equipment also allow remote<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol not <strong>on</strong>ly of lights but<br />
also of a sec<strong>on</strong>d camera!<br />
Depending <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> brand, <strong>the</strong>y<br />
often allow remote c<strong>on</strong>trol over<br />
much greater distance than o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
synch systems.<br />
Disadvantage. Cost.<br />
When <strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong>se triggers is<br />
attached to <strong>the</strong> camera and<br />
ano<strong>the</strong>r to <strong>the</strong> flash, you will<br />
gain maximum c<strong>on</strong>trol. They work<br />
<strong>on</strong> different frequencies, and we<br />
can select <strong>the</strong> frequency we want<br />
<strong>the</strong> device to use, so different<br />
photographers’ lights d<strong>on</strong>’t trigger<br />
<strong>on</strong>e ano<strong>the</strong>r. Do some research,<br />
though, and find a<br />
frequency that fewer<br />
photographers are<br />
using.<br />
