Grading Policy<br />

The following grade policy will be used for all courses taught at the secondary level:<br />

1. Percentages for major and daily work:<br />

Major Daily Homework<br />

a. Regular 60% 30% 10%<br />

b. Honors / G/T 60% 30% 10%<br />

2. Major Grades - A minimum of three TEKS/benchmark based major grades must be<br />

recorded per grading period.<br />

Major grades may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />

Nine week tests<br />

benchmark exams<br />

unit/chapter tests<br />

research projects/papers (final product)<br />

special projects (science fair, history fair, performances, speeches, etc.)<br />

performance-based assessments<br />

book reports/critiques<br />

compositions<br />

portfolios<br />

Nine-week common assessments will be given in science, math, language arts, and social<br />

studies (s/m/la/ss). Math, language arts, and social studies will have an 18 week benchmark<br />

exam. Language arts follows the layered lesson cycle.<br />

3. Daily Grades-<br />

A minimum of fifteen TEKS/benchmark based daily grades must be recorded per grading<br />

period.<br />

Daily work may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />

group/individual projects<br />

hands-on activities/labs/rehearsals<br />

class/group work (cooperative learning, etc.)<br />

vocabulary assignments<br />

learning centers<br />

chapter/unit tests (if applicable)<br />

lab reports<br />

computer activities<br />

notebooks<br />

appropriate homework<br />

vocabulary/spelling tests and/or assignments<br />

interim work for projects/papers<br />

quizzes<br />

activities from adopted text series<br />

calculator activities<br />

journals<br />

writing processes (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing)<br />

informal compositions<br />
