Grades K-4<br />
1. The grading system below will be used in the areas of Handwriting, PE / Wellness, Fine Arts,<br />
Music, Art and Conduct<br />
E = Excellent<br />
S = Satisfactory<br />
N = Needs Improvement<br />
U = Unsatisfactory<br />
Non-weighted classes will use the Daily category in the gradebook for all assignments.<br />
a. Handwriting Grades K-4<br />
At least one grade should be taken weekly. The grade may come from independent<br />
student practice on daily work. Emphasis should be placed on the application of<br />
legible handwriting in all curriculum areas.<br />
b. Physical Education/Wellness<br />
A minimum of three (3) assessments will be documented each nine weeks grading<br />
period. <strong>Teacher</strong>s will use marks of E, S, N, and U to indicate performance and mastery<br />
of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) found in the Elementary Physical<br />
Education Resource Guide.<br />
A conduct grade must be noted in the comment section.<br />

1. Creative Drama<br />
Creative Drama will be addressed through an integrated approach with<br />
documentation of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) reflected in<br />
the teacher's grade book.<br />
2. Music<br />
A minimum of one (1) assessment will be documented each nine weeks<br />
grading period. Assessments may be in the form of performances, visual<br />
student response, or written response. <strong>Teacher</strong>s will use marks of E, S, N, and<br />
U to indicate performance and mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and<br />
Skills (TEKS) found in the Elementary Music Curriculum Guide.<br />
E – Excellent performance<br />
S – Satisfactory performance<br />
N – Performance needs improvement<br />
U – Unsatisfactory performance<br />
The assessment of a child's progress in art is based on the child's mastery of the Texas<br />
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for art. A child's grade in art should not be<br />
based on a teacher's quality judgment of the child’s artistic talent as represented by the<br />
art work produced. A child's progress in art will be recorded in several ways:<br />
1. Pre-test and post-test. Each student will complete the four pre-test and posttest<br />
art projects in the Elementary Art Resource Guide at the beginning and at<br />
the end of each school year.
