Non-EOC courses:<br />

o Each nine weeks grade is worth 42.5% of the final semester grade and the final exam is<br />

worth 15% of the final semester grade.<br />

Final Exam – Completing a final exam is a course requirement and must be taken in order to pass the<br />

course and receive credit for that course. Students must take final exams in order to receive credit in<br />

a course, unless the students qualify for an exemption under current policy.<br />

The state conversion scale for numerical grades is:<br />

100-90 = A<br />

89-80 = B<br />

79-75 = C<br />

74-70 = D<br />

69- 0 = F<br />

Progress reports will reflect actual student grades.<br />

Grading Policy<br />

The following grade policy will be used for all courses taught at the secondary level:<br />

1. Percentages for major and daily work<br />

Major Daily Homework<br />

a. Regular 60% 30% 10%<br />

b. Honors/GT 60% 30% 10%<br />

2. Grade requirements for each reporting period:<br />

First 3 weeks – 1 major grade, 6 daily grades, 1 homework grade<br />

Second 3 weeks – 1 major grade, 6 daily grades, 1 homework grade<br />

Third 3 weeks – 1 major grade, 6 daily grades, 1 homework grade<br />

3. Major Grades - A minimum of three TEKS/benchmark based major grades must be<br />

recorded per grading period.<br />

Major grades may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />

nine-week tests<br />

benchmark exams<br />

unit/chapter tests<br />

research projects/papers (final product)<br />

special projects (science fair, history fair, performances, speeches, etc.)<br />

performance-based assessments<br />

book reports/critiques<br />

compositions<br />

portfolios<br />

Nine-week common assessments will be given in science, math, Language arts and social<br />

studies. All classes will have an 18 week exam.<br />

4. Daily Grades-<br />

A minimum of fifteen TEKS/benchmark based daily grades must be recorded per grading<br />

period.<br />

Daily work may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />

group/individual projects<br />

hands-on activities/labs/rehearsals<br />

class/group work (cooperative learning, etc.)<br />
