Universal Screening Data<br />

Record of previous intervention, Individual Intervention Plan<br />

Previous referrals for special education<br />

Documentation of the Early Intervention Team<br />

Schedules and notes from parent conferences<br />

Parent contacts<br />

Any other appropriate information from the student’s cumulative folder<br />

8. In exceptional cases, placement of a student at the appropriate grade level may occur with<br />

the approval of a campus committee.<br />

9. Fifth grade students must pass the reading and math STAAR tests as prescribed by state law<br />

in addition to meeting local regular promotional standards in order to be eligible for<br />

promotion to the sixth grade.<br />

10. A fifth grade student who does not demonstrate proficiency in reading and math by meeting<br />

all STAAR standards may only advance to sixth grade by a unanimous decision made by<br />

the Grade Placement Committee and by successfully completing accelerated instruction as<br />

prescribed by state law.<br />

Encounters (G/T) Program Student Review<br />

By April of each year, the principal of each intermediate school will direct G/T teachers and<br />

counselors to review the progress of each G/T student. If any student is not performing to a level<br />

that is acceptable to remain in his G/T component, the student will be referred to the G/T screening<br />

committee for evaluation. (Sufficient documentation of parent contact must be in the student folder.)<br />

The screening committee will review, evaluate, and recommend continued placement or removal<br />

from the G/T component.<br />

Additional Promotion Standards<br />

1. Limited English Proficient students must make a minimum of one year’s growth in<br />

English/reading to be promoted.<br />

2. Fifth grade students must pass the STAAR reading and math tests in order to be eligible for<br />

promotion to the sixth grade in addition to meeting regular promotional standards.<br />

3. A fifth grade student who does not demonstrate proficiency in reading and math by meeting<br />

all standards may only advance to sixth grade by a unanimous decision made by the Grade<br />

Placement Committee.<br />

4. Students in grade 5 who do not pass the science STAAR tests and 6th grade students who<br />

do not pass the reading and math STAAR tests must successfully participate in accelerated<br />

instruction in order to be eligible for promotion.<br />

5. In exceptional cases, placement of a student at the appropriate grade level may occur with<br />

the approval of a campus committee.<br />

Special Programs<br />

1. Tutorial Classes: Any student who is not meeting minimum grade level requirements in<br />

language arts, mathematics, science or social studies may participate in tutorial classes.<br />

2. Title I: All schools in <strong>Aldine</strong> ISD have school-wide Title I programs. All teachers and<br />

students may benefit from the program funds with an emphasis being given to those<br />

students needing instructional assistance in language arts, mathematics, science, or social<br />

studies.<br />
