Grades 1-4<br />
1. Students will receive weighted numeric grades in Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies<br />
and Written Communication<br />
2. Percentages for major and daily work:<br />

60% 30% 10%<br />
3. Major Grades - One major grade spread out during each three-week period so there is a<br />
balance during the progress reporting period. All district-required benchmark assessments<br />
MUST be included as major grades in the nine-weeks that they are administered.<br />
Major grades may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />
nine weeks tests<br />
benchmark exams<br />
unit/chapter tests<br />
research projects/papers (final product)<br />
special projects (science fair, history fair, performances, speeches, etc.)<br />
performance-based assessments<br />
book reports/critiques<br />
compositions<br />
portfolios<br />
A district-wide common assessment calendar will be developed each year and provided to<br />
each campus. Nine-week common assessments and benchmark exams will be given in<br />
science, math, language arts, and social studies.<br />
4. Daily Grades – A minimum of fifteen TEKS/benchmark based daily grades must be recorded<br />
per grading period: at least two per week with a minimum of fifteen. In Reading, the daily<br />
grades MUST include at least two grades assessing reading fluency. In Math, no more than<br />
two of the fifteen daily grades should assess Math facts.<br />
Daily work may consist of, but are not limited to, the following:<br />
group / individual projects and assignments<br />
hands-on activities / labs<br />
class / group work (cooperative learning, etc.)<br />
vocabulary assignments<br />
fluency probes<br />
learning centers / workstations<br />
chapter/unit tests (if applicable)<br />
lab reports<br />
computer activities<br />
notebooks<br />
vocabulary/spelling tests and/or assignments<br />
interim work for projects/papers<br />
quizzes<br />
activities from adopted text series<br />
journals<br />
writing processes (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing)<br />
informal compositions<br />
portfolios<br />
speech / communication / presentation skills<br />
