The Menus
13.1.1 Saving and Opening Files on Other Platform
Igor Engraver files are completely cross-platform, e.g., you can save files on a
Macintosh and open them on a Windows computer, continue working on the file
on that machine and then do the final editing on another Macintosh. However,
do to the limitations in the operating systems you will need to do some alterations.
See 1.12 “Sharing Files Between Platforms” on page 39 for details.
13.1.2 Import MIDI File and Export MIDI File
The Import and the Export commands allow you to import or export a MIDI file.
These two windows are dealt with in the MIDI and NIFF chapter.
13.1.3 Import NIFF File
The Import NIFF File command lets you import NIFF (Notation Interchange File
Format) files. This means Igor Engraver can import sheet music files from some
other notation software and sheet music scanning programs, using a standard
much more suitable for exchanging sheet music data than MIDI can offer. For
example, slurs are notated correctly when importing a NIFF file, whereas a MIDI
file will notate slurred passages as “clusters”. This process is dealt with in the
MIDI and NIFF chapter.
13.1.4 Load Plug-In
If you have an Igor plug-in, you can use this command to load the plug-in into
Igor Engraver. When chosen, this Load Plug-in… opens a regular window for
finding files. Locate the plug-in file (it should be put in the Plug-ins folder
inside the Igor Engraver folder) and open it to activate it (this feature is not
available for Igor Egraver 1.4).
13.1.5 Check for Patches
When the important and unique Check for patches… command is selected and
you are online, Igor Engraver automatically checks for new patches (files that
adds functionality to the program or correct bugs) on a web server. In most cases,
they are only a few kilobytes in size.
