CHAPTER 1 Installation and Setup Installation of Igor Engraver is a simple process in itself. Nevertheless, sometimes people run into problems during installation, due to various problems with operating system configurations and so on. Hence, this chapter may prove very valuable during the installation of the software. Note that this chapter is divided into two parts, one for Windows and one for Macintosh. If you are a Windows user - read on; if you use a Macintosh, start reading at section 1.5. The last sections tell you how to purchase Igor Engraver and how to move your Igor Engraver files between Windows and Macintosh computers. 1.1 System Requirements (Windows) The Windows version of Igor Engraver will run on any system that uses Windows 95 or above, requires at least 64 MB of RAM and a Pentium II processor or better. You also need a soundcard or synthesiser to get playback from Igor Engraver. Remember that the quality of Igor Engraver’s unique playback feature depends greatly on the quality of the synthesiser you are using. 1.2 Installing Igor Engraver (Windows) The installation process of Igor Engraver is very simple: just run the installation program. Igor Engraver and its associated files will be automatically installed. Be sure to configure your synthesiser settings, as described in the next section. (If you would rather use a step-by-step approach for the installation process, turn to 1.3 “A Step-By-Step Guide to Installing Igor Engraver (Windows)” on page 19). Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later is needed to read the documentation. Acrobat Reader is available from www.adobe.com. When the appropriate applications are installed, you are ready to run Igor Engraver. Double-click the Igor Engraver symbol and go!
19 CHAPTER 1 Installation and Setup 1.3 A Step-By-Step Guide to Installing Igor Engraver (Windows) For those who prefer an easy to follow step-by-step approach during the installation process, this section can prove very valuable. 1.3.1 Downloading Other Software In case you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, start by downloading that application. If you use an old version of Acrobat Reader, the Igor Engraver Manual may not be displayed properly. 1.3.2 Downloading and Unpacking (This section is written for those who read the manual before downloading Igor. If you have already downloaded the program – skip to the next section.) Start by downloading Igor Engraver from www.noteheads.com. Downloading is easy – simply fill out the download form and press Download. Igor Engraver is a large program – around 25 MB in size – so the downloading process may take a while. When the downloading process has been completed, double-click the Igor Engraver Installer icon to unpack the program. Observe that if you use Windows NT/2000/XP, you will need to log in on your system as Administrator to install Igor Engraver, due to security settings in Windows. When the installer has been opened, an Installer window will appear. Next, press Continue. The READ ME-document will open. Read it carefully, since it may contain very important information not covered in the manual. If you want to, you can print this document now (or later by opening the READ ME-document from the Igor Engraver folder). When you are done, click Continue, or Cancel to abort. If you clicked Continue, you will now see a window telling about copyright issues and the like. If you have read, understood, and agreed with the text, press Agree.
