Table 5-2 gives estimates of utility cost savings <strong>for</strong> different buildings <strong>and</strong><br />

locations in Cali<strong>for</strong>nia obtained with equation (5-8). For these calculations, the<br />

degradation factors determined <strong>for</strong> the RTU installed at Milpitas were used. This site uses<br />

RTU a 6-ton York air conditioning system with a nominal EER equal to 9 <strong>and</strong> its EER<br />

<strong>and</strong> cooling capacity degraded 21% <strong>and</strong> 30%, respectively due to faults. The runtimes <strong>for</strong><br />

different sites, which only include the operation time <strong>for</strong> mechanical cooling, are<br />

estimated using data collected in 2002.<br />

From Table 5-2, it can be seen that:<br />

1. The savings are greater in southern Cali<strong>for</strong>nia than in northern Cali<strong>for</strong>nia,<br />

because the climate is hotter <strong>and</strong> the electricity costs are higher. The<br />

differences might be less if dem<strong>and</strong> charges were included.
