Many go on to work in these environments after graduation and registration. We currently have graduates working in both clinical and management positions in local trusts, hospitals and care organisations, as well as in local and county councils. About our School We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching, with an ever expanding range of health-related courses on offer, while our reputation for research (submitted with our Department of Sociology) is outstanding. Within our School, our educational provision meets professional regulatory requirements and achieves high standards. We do so by having staff that are multi-professional, so they have clinical and academic credibility. In addition, we draw on the expertise of our visiting fellows and lecturers, who are experienced practitioners, to provide further specialist contributions to our programmes. All our staff are concerned with the development of evidence-based practice in their own areas of clinical expertise, and many are supported in carrying out health-related research. Externally, we have strong partnership agreements with other educational establishments and health organisations, including the Tavistock Clinic in London. We deliver teaching and research at both our Colchester and Southend campuses. We specialise in applied, multi-disciplinary research that addresses issues of national and international concern to health policy and practice, and related fields. We have research interest groups in ‘Developing Professional Practice’ and ‘Applied Health Research’, and also host the NIHR Research Design Service for the East of England. Many of our students aspire to careers within healthcare or are already working as nurses, doctors, psychologists, allied health professionals, care assistants, social workers and managers in healthcare environments. We offer a range of postgraduate studies in health-related subjects, including taught courses, taught pre-registration courses, research degrees and doctoral programmes. Taught courses We offer a range of unique one-year standard and two-year pre-registration taught courses. By pre-registration, we mean that these courses lead to the additional qualification of eligibility to apply for registration with the appropriate regulatory body. Our courses include full and part-time studies, which provide you with a learning environment suited to your professional commitments. Many of our programmes are offered as part of interprofessional learning (IPL), encouraging professionals to learn with and from each other – an understanding that helps to ensure you have the expertise to respond adequately and effectively to the complexity of your service user needs, and ensures that care is safe, seamless and of a high standard. We form part of Essex’s interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Centre, recently designated by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and one of only 21 in the UK. This means two of our courses have ESRC Doctoral Training Centre accreditation, and a number of ESRC studentships are available for new students. Pre-registration Our full-time accelerated courses are suitable if you are a graduate who wishes to become eligible to register with the relevant regulatory body within two years. Our students on these courses share learning experiences across all pre-registration disciplines. We use problem-based learning and design our courses as a continuous progression of integrated theory and practice.
