Our modular programmes incorporate
multiple student/individual-focused
pathways which lead to awards within
specialist health areas. Many modules
are available as stand alone formats,
designed to address the immediate and
ever changing needs of clinical services.
In addition to this, you may also credit
accumulate towards interim and final
awards, including postgraduate certificate,
postgraduate diploma and a full taught
Masters.
Advanced Musculoskeletal Assessment•
We offer two musculoskeletal pathways –
Assessment and Practice, and Imaging.
These provide multiple pathways for
experienced clinicians, so you can expand
your knowledge and skills while assessing
and managing patients with a range of
musculoskeletal conditions beyond your
normal scope of practice. Our optional
modules allow you to expand your
musculoskeletal practice with a focus on
imaging, including ultrasonography, or a
focus on patient management, including
injection therapy. Teaching contributions are
drawn from expertise across our academic
departments and many modules are
supported by Moodle.
Health Care Practice•
This course will interest you if you are a
health care professional in primary,
secondary and tertiary settings, wishing to
advance your knowledge base and clinical
skills. Irrespective of your clinical speciality,
you will become actively involved in the
advancement of practice which will be
recognised within our MSc Health Care
Practice. It is anticipated that this course
will also significantly contribute towards
your registration as an advanced
practitioner with the Nursing and
Midwifery Council.
We offer five specialist variations:
n Health Care Practice;
n Health Care Practice (End of Life Care);
n Health Care Practice (Long Term
Conditions);
n Health Care Practice (Mental Health);
n Health Care Practice (Respiratory Care).
These specialist pathways provide you with
a broad and critical understanding of the
underlying key concepts, as well as the
necessary skills to access and critically
appraise research findings, thereby
ensuring that you are able to apply your
understanding of the health sciences, legal
and ethical frameworks, and health care
policy to critique and enhance your own
evidence-based and professional practice.
Entry requirements for Advanced
Musculoskeletal Assessment and
Health Care Practice are:
n Relevant professional qualification
and current registration with the
relevant UK professional body;
n Minimum of four years’ post-registration
experience (for Advanced
Musculoskeletal Assessment) and two
years’ post-registration experience
(for Health Care Practice);
n Relevant first degree or professional
experience and qualifications that
demonstrate ability to study at Level 7;
n Current employment in a relevant field
of practice;
n Demonstration of existing specialist
competencies in musculoskeletal
practice;
n IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Health Care Management•
This course is aimed at managers and
professionals working across a wide range
of health and social care sectors. It enables
you to enhance your management skills
and build your knowledge base through
practice-based interprofessional learning
and research. Core coursework focuses on
research methods and health services
management, while optional coursework
allows you to develop a unique set of
practical and intellectual skills.
Entry requirements are:
n Honours degree or equivalent (which
may include professional experience);
n Current involvement in health or social
care management.
Infection Control•
Our course gives nurses in hospital and
community settings the skills that lead
to innovative practice in infection control.
It is entirely web-based and therefore
accessible as distance learning, although
study days are held on our Colchester
Campus every three months.
Entry requirements are:
n Current registration with the NMC;
n Relevant first honours degree;
n Current employment in an infection
control role;
n IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Medical and Clinical Education•
This inter-professional course should
interest doctors, nurses, physiotherapists,
speech and language therapists, or any
other healthcare professional involved in
teaching and assessing in practice. It is
mapped against Nurse Practice Teacher,
Nurse Teacher, GP Associate Trainer, GP
Trainer, Occupational Therapist and
Physiotherapist Clinical Educator learning
outcomes. Our teaching is delivered
through face-to-face lectures and tutorials,
and online through Moodle.
If you wish to achieve NMC Practice
Teacher or Teacher qualifications, you
must supply (on application) evidence
of successful completion of a mentor
preparation programme or equivalent.
It should be noted that midwife applicants
will not be able to meet the NMC
Teacher standards.
Entry requirements are:
n Current registration with a relevant
professional regulatory body;
n Relevant first degree or equivalent;
n Current involvement in teaching and
assessing in practice, plus three years’
healthcare experience;
n IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Public Health Management•
We designed this course to provide you
with the knowledge and skills needed to
fulfil a management role in public health
and community development within a health
