MA Philosophy and Health Care Ethics
will ensure you have a better understanding
of the lived meaning and consequences
of illness, so is particularly useful if you
are a health care professional wishing
to transform your practices.
MA Philosophy and Health Care Law•
This course will interest you if you have a
diverse background (in particular law, health
care or philosophy) and wish to acquire the
theoretical tools to help you understand the
existential meaning of illness and care in a
philosophically grounded way. Drawing from
both legal writings and the work of various
philosophers (in particular, twentieth-century
phenomenologists such as Heidegger
or Lévinas), our various modules clarify
many of the concepts which are central
to health care, such as illness, anxiety,
death, solicitude. We also give you an
introduction to health care law and bring
out the legal and ethical implications of
health care practices.
Our MA Philosophy and Health Care Law
fosters a better understanding of the lived
meaning and consequences of illness, so
develops your awareness of and ability to
reflect critically on the legal issues
surrounding health care.
MA Philosophy and Psychoanalysis•
Offered with our Centre for Psychoanalytic
Studies, MA Philosophy and Psychoanalysis
brings together psychoanalytic and
philosophical perspectives, and uses this
to illuminate cultural, moral and existential
questions. You will study how the thinking
of Freud and later psychoanalysts has
played a major role in European philosophy
in the twentieth century. Conversely, you will
also cover how psychoanalysts have drawn
on philosophical sources in deepening their
theory and practice.
