I would recommend the
International Academy’s MA
TESOL to anyone looking to
develop their teaching practice
and increase their knowledge
of theory within the field of TESOL.
As a student in the International
Academy, I was given a high level of
support, especially from my lecturers
who were both encouraging and
inspiring. Working with students
from a range of different teaching
backgrounds was also very insightful.
Throughout my course, I had the
opportunity to study a breadth of theory,
as well as understanding how this can
be put into practice. Another part of my
MA TESOL that I found very valuable
was the reflection and evaluation of my
own teaching practice. This has helped
me a lot in my current teaching job at the
International Academy, as I now have
skills in place to enable me to critically
reflect upon my teaching,
so have become much more
effective in my role.

We place emphasis on the practical
application of the theoretical bases of
TESOL to classroom practice within an
expanding global teaching environment.
In order to reflect the link between theory
and practice, micro-teaching, collaborative
classroom observation and small-scale
research form part of your assessment.
Our MA TESOL will be particularly
attractive if you are a teacher who is
unable to leave employment for a full
year, as each component can be
considered as a complete course.
Credits awarded at each exit point can
be accumulated and transferred to the
next stage, so you can build up sufficient
credits to progress through the different
levels, from 60 credits (Postgraduate
Certificate), to 120 credits (Postgraduate
Diploma) and 180 credits (Masters).
Our assessment includes a 12,000-word
supervised dissertation based on original
TESOL related research. Delivery is flexible,
so you can study full-time for one year or
part-time over two years, and we also offer
modular study, which allows you to
complete our course within a maximum
of six years.
CELTA
This is one of the foremost initial
qualifications if you wish to become
a professional teacher of the English
language and is designed for proficient
or native speakers of English with little
or no experience of teaching English as
a foreign language.
CELTA is internationally recognised and
accredited by Cambridge ESOL, it is a
highly practical course that provides you
with the skills to plan, deliver, and reflect on
key issues in English language teaching.
