This information is a guide to course
content and is subject to change on
an annual basis.
exhibition making and/or curatorship with
the requisite art historical, theoretical and
practical skills, with a special emphasis on
Latin American art.
MA Gallery Studies and Critical Curating
This full-time course offers a practical
and theoretical training if you are interested
in devising or curating exhibitions, and
includes the preparation of an exhibition
in our University art gallery.
In lectures and seminars, you explore
the history and theory of exhibition
making, as well as the functions, purposes
and narrative structures of exhibitions.
In practical workshops, you consider
essentials for successful exhibition making,
such as writing an exhibition proposal,
applying for loans, raising sponsorships
and managing your exhibition budget.
We include regular visits to museums and
galleries in London and the region which,
together with lectures by visiting speakers,
gives you the chance to meet established
professionals in the field.
MA Gallery Studies with Dissertation•
On this course you cover all the historical,
theoretical and practical materials included
in our MA Gallery Studies and Critical
Curating but replace your exhibition project
with a dissertation.
Graduate Diploma in Art History
and Theory
If you do not have the appropriate
undergraduate preparation to embark
on one of our MA courses, you may apply
for our nine-month Graduate Diploma,
which can constitute a qualifying year
for the relevant MA course.
Our Graduate Diploma consists of four
modules (two at undergraduate level and
two at postgraduate), which are chosen in
consultation with your course director. You
must complete the appropriate coursework
and examinations, and can also write a
project on a topic of your choice if that
is agreed by your course director. All
who complete this year successfully will be
awarded a Diploma, whether or not you
proceed to an MA.
