LLM European Business Law
(Pallas Programme)
This course has been ranked among the
six best LLM courses in Europe and the
ten best in the world. LLM European
Business Law (Pallas Programme) produces
graduates working across the full range
of public and private sector institutions,
including with top international law firms
in most major European countries and
on other continents.
This course is located at our Colchester
Campus but lecturers come from top law
firms around the world and other partner
institutions to teach. It should particularly
interest you if you are thinking of a legal
practice which requires knowledge of
comparative European law, as well as of
the norms coming from the Union itself.
As part of your studies, you will meet with
law firms in London, as well as members of
the judiciary in Brussels and Luxembourg.
LLM European Union Law•
This LLM allows you to acquire a
specialist’s knowledge and understanding
of the law of the EU. You develop critical,
analytical and research skills, ensuring you
are capable of working in the field of EU
law as a lawyer, regulator, legal adviser or
researcher with government or international
and business organisations (including the
EU administration), and as an academic.
LLM Health Care Law and Human Rights•
On this LLM, you look at health care law,
a rapidly expanding discipline as it has
to provide a regulatory framework for all
issues arising in the context of the provision
of health care (eg consent to medical
treatment, medical negligence or abortion)
and constantly react to novel medical
and scientific developments (eg stem
cell research or cloning). Human rights law
plays a growing role in the regulation and
provision of health care, as human rights
considerations must be taken into account
when deciding how to organise the
provision of health care, or when striking
a balance between the individual rights of
patients and conflicting rights of others
or societal interests.
We provide you with an advanced
conceptual understanding of the methods,
techniques and legal principles regarding
health care law and human rights. This is
informed by insight based on scholarship
at the forefront of the discipline and allows
you to set health care law and human rights
into its ethical, social and global contexts.
LLM International Human Rights and
Humanitarian Law•
This LLM builds on the success of
our long-established LLM International
Human Rights Law, and our expertise
with respect to the protection of human
rights in situations of acute crisis. You
critically examine how international law
protects individuals in such situations, with
core modules exploring the rules of general
public international law most relevant to
the study of human rights, humanitarian
law and international peacekeeping,
together with the international machinery
for the protection of human rights, the
international law of armed conflict and
international refugee law.
Our LLM International Human Rights
and Humanitarian Law should appeal
if you looking to work with humanitarian
organisations in the field or have
experience and want to examine the
legal aspects of your work in more detail.
It would be of interest if you are a member
of the military seeking to broaden your
understanding of the international law
pertaining to peacekeeping and other
types of military operation, or a member of
governments or international organisations
responsible for establishing peacekeeping
or other humanitarian operations.

International Human Rights Law offers
you detailed coverage of the international
and regional machinery for protecting and
promoting human rights, plus knowledge of
different human rights, their interplay, and
their protection in peace, as well as conflict,
situations. You are taught by one of the
strongest teams of academic and
professionally experienced human rights
lawyers in the world – many of our staff
have held or currently hold posts in the UN
or other international organisations. Your
assessment is academically challenging
and provides you with a variety of skills
useful for subsequent work in this field.
