Profile
Pallavi lives in South Courts, just
a five minute walk from the centre
of our Colchester Campus.
I am very happy living in
University accommodation.
I have a large en suite room
which is very comfortable
and the location is excellent, as
it is near my Department so I can get to
work easily and come home anytime. This
also means that all the facilities on our
Colchester Campus, and the University
library, are easily accessible to me.
I live in South Courts because I am
a Residents’ Assistant (RA), as part of
the University’s support network. This
accommodation-based service, managed
by Student Support, means Essex
students have a positive experience
of living and learning; we meet others
staying in accommodation to ensure
they are settling in and organise a
range of social activities. I was given
training for this role and have found it
very worthwhile.
I have been given a great blend of
academic and career opportunities whilst
at Essex. As well as being a full-time PhD
student, I work with Student Support as
a Residents’ Assistant and as a graduate
laboratory assistant for my Department.
The exposure to all these fields
has helped me immensely.
