WHEN OCCAM’S RAZOR FAVORS THE PARANORMAL
The simplest solution is preferable.
The simplest solution is more likely to be right.
The razor is a heuristic maxim to most disciplines but is inherent to metaphysics and
necessary. Why?
For 3D bound observers in the material universe simpler is better simply because WE
ARE THE MOST COMPLEX THINGS IN IT – in an effort to explain anything, simpler
is the only direction to go. Simplicity gets complicated quick though, cuz in order to
know any one thing you kinda haveta know everything, although specialists may argue
that... Point, complexity and interconnectedness are the same. When a new age wacko
like me says ALL IS ONE, that’s pretty damn connected. "All is One" is literally the
simplest solution to ________.
We are "back-engineering" creation via reductionism, but reductionism becomes
integrationism once we reach sub-atomic scales. The delineated complexity becomes
homogenous chaos.
What does that mean? It means that the rules for classical and quantum mechanics don't
need to be mutually exclusive or unified, it means that when one realm interferes with the
other it's to be expected, not relegated to "new age" pseudoscience.
The whole premise of a GUT or TOE is unification, but this unification needs to come
socially before it can be done scientifically. Right now science is plagued with as much
ego and dogma as any other religion; it is as splintered as well, into opposing camps for
virtually every theory. The general division is between old school gatekeepers with
tenure and titles and non-affiliated, non-academic wackos more concerned with truth than
career. The dichotomy is maintained by a "Skeptics" community and Journal Editors and
certain politicians who don't necessarily want simpler answers.
Michael Shermer is the go-to face for the Skeptics and he's ready to shit on any idea that
doesn't fit in classical physics. He goes out of his way to explain how blatantly
paranormal things are mass hallucinations or hoaxes. For example, let's look at crop
circles; nobody debates they are real but the origin, the creator is a mystery.
The open minded observer will conclude that most are supernatural in origin. Michael
will tell you every single formation ever documented is made by human hands but he has
never tried to prove it. If that were true, any one could be reproduced, in one night. The
razor favors the supernatural, and if left to that we are fine. We could employ O.R. again
in deciding what possible supernatural mechanism that may be…
